I’ve been idly toying with plans for which music I want playing at my funeral (which is hopefully a few years away yet). Knocking on Heavens Door is to be played as the doors open and my coffin trundles down the conveyor belt. (it MUST be Dylan's original, no cover version). I want The Sound of Silence, The Disturbed version. He needs to lighten up a bit... a bit like this guy

I think I prefer ‘Ol’ Blue Eyes’ singing it 😀 Sid's is the best version of that ever. End of! One of the worst but most hilarious covers has got to be Paul Shane murdering You've Lost That Loving Feeling. Don't know how to put videos up but check it out on YouTube. This is for you mate! 😂

I wouldn't say Elvis's versions were the "worst ever", but probably not as good as thes Surely not as bad as this BJR?
That's fucking brilliant!

Felonious Bad? Bad! sacrilege. I think Elvis's version is actually better than Simon and Garfunkel's. I think when Elvis performed many of his ballads he related them to his own life....put some soul into it..eg just his resigned saying of " yeah" early in the song...." When times get rough....." ( At 2.42- 2.52 he gives one of his disapproving looks to the instrumentals for coming in too loud....He always said that for every performance there was a new audience so they had to give their best/ one of the things I like about him) Paul Simon thought that Presley's was the best version of the song, including his own. During that summer season in Vegas, Paul Simon attended one of the shows, and, after seeing Elvis perform the song, he was reported to have said, "That's it, we might as well all give up now." Ignore him, he's a Palestine! 😁

I well remember you saying all of this before hence the choice of song and the deliberately positioned

That's fucking brilliant! possibly even better in rehearsals. In 1955 when RCA bought his contract there's an account of hiw he ( politely) told the experienced arranger/ producer, chet atkins, that he would take control of the whole arrangement.... apparently previously unheard of..... before tgen the artist did as they were told ( i guess there are variations on input). ( at 2.30 on the actual video he looks back at his musicians whom he thought had git it wrong).
