Apologies if already posted but did anyone see this Stoke youth player playing for Ireland U17 against the Netherlands? Absolutely outstanding, man of the match and a huge prospect.

Looked at least as good as some very talented Dutch youths when Ireland played them this week

Nathan Collins was nothing short of magnificent, as he had been throughout the entire tournament. Performances as good as this (against the best U17 side in Europe) don't go unnoticed. We need to look after prospects like Collins (and Greenidge and Campbell etc), and not let them get seduced from under our noses.
incidentally, another Stoke kid, Murphy, excelled for Ireland in the same game.
As for you, Corkstokie, you're not alone. I am a "lifer", fighting the good fight in Dublin against torrents of derisive abuse for my obsessive love for my team. My wife is a martyr, but retains her dignity beside me. But, then again, she's dead posh (Montenotte). You're the only one on this board who can possibly understand what that means!!!

I was aware of that. It's how we let it happen that pisses me off, and what measures do we need to employ to stop it happening again. It's alright for the "big" clubs to let talent slip through the net from time to time, but we can't afford to.
I have a real sense of forboding about Greenidge; I have a feeling that he is going to be very good.

Hard to tell.

I went the game, first time I’ve seen him play. He’s very mature for his age, shouting instructions all the time, I think he has a bright future.

In the absence of regular captain Ollie Shenton, Irish under-19 international Collins was given the armband for the evening.
Russell said: “It was an easy decision for me. The kid’s got a real chance (of making it) in my opinion. He’s a leader, even at 17. He talks, he organises, he sets examples and he plays by example.”

Could it be that, at long last, our academy (and our youth recruitment policy) is starting to produce the standard of player we all hoped it would have been producing years ago? Time will tell but I am more optimistic about the potential of some of our youngsters than I have been for a long time.

Really hope so, hearing about the youth team doing well makes the season easier to take. I still think the club should be doing more with the fans and the youth team. Maybe stream the games for a nominal amount??

Possibly true for U18 games as well - although I'm prepared to listen to objections!

I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that Collins was in his last year. Given his age is Collins on a pro contract yet? Turned 17 last April, so would have signed his first pro deal then presumably? Would imagine that he's got at least another year left and if he is rated, surely we've moved quickly to add a year or two. Verlinden has got 3 years left on the 5-yr deal he signed in 2017 www.stokecityfc.com/news/verlinden-inks-long-term-deal

I’ve been banging on about Collins for a while, looks like a very good prospect to me. Hopefully he’ll get a bit of 1st team experience next season I was lucky to witness Collins play for Ireland against Holland, and have also witnessed his appearances for the Stoke youngsters. There’s no doubt that this kid is the future of our club and is already a future captain ! At 17 he reads the game like a experienced 27 year old, he has controlled aggression, guile, calmness, awareness and has excellent distribution. I know that he’s highly regarded by the club who are trying to keep him under the radar, but already envious eyes are looking at him. As for Grennidge I don’t know who is advising him, but the last I heard he was plying his trade in the Cypriot league ?

Greenidge seems to have moved from Nicosia in Cyprus to Badajoz in the Spanish third division on January deadline day for 45k euros, but hasn't played for them. Strange old career plan. Mind you, at least he's getting a bit of sun. www.cdbadajoz.com/index.php/player/jordan-greenidge/

Do we think Jones is the type who will embrace youth in his team's?. Sounds like we have some exciting talent bubbling under.

It would be great to meet up with other Irish Stoke fans (it's very lonely being the only Stoke fan I know!).
There's a very "Irish" look about the under-age teams at the club right now. Don't forget the new kid, Corrigan, just in from Man. City. A left full back (!!!!!!), who's meant to be very good.
Having just seen the last comment, it would be unforgivable if we didn't tie Collins into a five year pro contract immediately.
