The free travel came as a consequence of bring in the premier league. A fund of money £200k I think is given to all Premier League sides to use as they will on tickets or trave. Stoke chose free travel. As we are no longer in the premier league no free travel, Tickets prices in the prem were capped at £30 no such cap exists in the Football League or EFL as it is now branded, so expect high prices for next season’s match tickets and no free travel It’s true it came about that way , but Stoke continued to provide free travel once the ring fencing had stopped and the capping introduced ..of which Stoke to their credit were one of the main movers. IMO Stoke continued with free travel to help encourage the gentrification process amongst our support , which prior to the premiership was badly needed , by encouraging more families to follow football on a consistent basis arriving in a controlled and timely manner in a largely sober condition ..thus helping as they see it the name of scfc , whilst encouraging family support which has a knock on effect at home games we all know relegation is likely to see a behavioural change and type amongst our away support .it will be interesting to see if the club continues to try to balance this with continuing with free travel

What money, it was a PL initiative? Season ticket prices have been frozen for 11 years is it? What money? Why is it free. It’s a service that costs money that the club must have some say over how it’s spent otherwise all Prem clubs would have free away travel. If the Prem stipulated it must be spent exclusively on away fans fair enough. I just think fans who go away are a small percentage of us who attend all the home games so why should they get all the benefit. That is precisely what the Premier League did. Some clubs spent it on their fans travelling away; others spent it on doing stuff in the away sections of their own grounds.

After that Stoke chose to continue to provide the free travel themselves. Living where I do, it hasn't benefitted me many times but I still think it was a fantastic gesture by the club and they should continue it. Always generates the same responses though. Petty minded and greedy people moaning because the offer doesn't give them exactly what they want. I don’t think it was mate It’s an ongoing thing ......if it came from the club why did they waver it for cup matches ?

£45 they can fuck right off. It's going cost a fortune next season with the extra games and travel, and a lot of fans will have to cut their cloth accordingly, including me. The only way to fight these ridiculous prices is to charge reciprocal prices to away fans

IT was a PL initiative, we are EFL now so there isn't any money this season. The money from the PL was to help away fans costs be kept down, there was nothing ever going to home supporters.

Plus Bolton, Wigan and Shrewsbury with a bit of luck and Barnsley's not that far. Barnsley far enough in league 1, its a shame burton dropped. My bad. Thought they survived at the expense of Burton but remember now it was Bolton.

Firstly it wasn't a grant it was money Stoke and all other Premier league teams where going to receive anyway but they agreed to ring fence 200K of TV revenue to be spent improving away fans experience. Be it free travel, cheaper tickets to improving the away ends and giving free food. Also it was a 3 year agreement not a 1 season, that was superseeded with last years £30 cap agreement, however Stoke continued the free away travel last season off their own backs.

Thanks for putting me right. That Stoke continued to do it when they didn't have to was a good thing. Hopefully they continue. Doesn't really help me but does many others.

There are posts above explaining that it was only in force for one season. IMO Stoke then chose to carry on supporting the costs of away fans when they should have used whatever it cost to benefit all fans. The whole reason for it has been on here for years as our own Malcolm Clarke has been the driving force behind the "£20's plenty" campaign for years because of the added rising costs of getting to away games, and without away fans you've got no atmosphere. This was the compromise before the £30 cap came in.

How much did it cost us a season?
How much is a coach to hire for a day?

Apart from Wednesday and Leeds is there anyone else who charge more than £30? People seem to be focusing on these two but I'm sure as an average over the course of a season ticket prices are less than £30.

How much did it cost us a season? How much is a coach to hire for a day? Last time I hired a coach for SWS it was around 500 quid. Guess the club will get bulk discounts though.

Villa, Albion, Brum, Derby, Both Sheffield's, Leeds, Forest, Rotherham/Shrewsbury, Preston, Bolton, Wigan and Blackburn. All of them between 35-90 miles.
We’ll all find the cash if we’re in the top 6.
Some very big away followings next season if we’re up there.
