I think we will make one 'big' signing, my money would be on Benteke and then look to build a solid side around him..I hope we don't turn to Dad's Army again but find the right blend of experience & youth. Benteke? Why the hell would he choose us in the Championship? Do you think we'll be spending 'Benteke money' on any single player? FFS, next season will be a season to behold on here. There will be pissy knickers all over the shop, I can picture it now!! If we spend more than 5 million on a player i'll be surprised.

I don't think he's smart enough to play in a team that doesn't park itself on the edge of their own 18 yard box. Especially not a team that tries to pass. I suppose as a bench player but id rather a youngster than waste money on a player who's past it. Huth and Shawcross would boss that league. Huth of 7 years ago possibly.

Hansen was always right, you don't win anything with kids. Well said about Waddo. It's worked for Juventus for a long time too. What we need is a blend of players, new and old, if we are doing the 'let's get promotion asap' thing. We don't need to look around for ideas from elsewhere for promotion, we have our own blueprint and it works. The same way that we got promoted will still work and for that, Huth & Walters would fit in very nicely indeed. This is all spoken from a relegation point of view. We were promoted to the Premier League with the joint record lowest points for automatic promotion to that league and you think we have a blueprint for promotion? Finishing in the top 2 is the only thing that matters, just like finishing in the top 17 in the Premier League. Who cares about how many points it takes. We also lost the least amount of games and scored the 2nd highest amount of goals that season, which says more about our style and tactics at the time than anything else. It's not exactly a blueprint per say but it's something to try and repeat. A lot of the teams who were with us that promotion season are now in the Premier League too, which indicated club's on the up - ie. competitive league at the time Championship football has not changed at all since we were last there though, dress it up all you want. It's classic English football. What Stoke are good at, actually.

On a free I am told. Would be a good signing if we are down or not. Get Walters back as well, let’s get the band back together. Give it a real go to come back up. Great news if we could field something like Grant Bauer Shawcross Huth Pieters Whelan Ndiaye Adam Walters Crouch Diouf we'd be well set for a promotion push and I'd actually like the team and want to watch it again. Have I read that right? You think a team with 9 30+ year olds and the combined mobility of a pissed up Oscar Pistorius would push for promotion?

Just remind me how old crouch is and still doing it in the prem?
Huth would be a massive signing and a great addition to the squad.

Plus the fact that it's likely that both the under 30's have got release clauses in their contracts so are unlikely to be here anyway. So if we add Johnson at right back and Ireland in Midfield it's a full on Dad's Army.

It is a route that very seldom produces enough points for automatic promotion.

Of course we will,it's not 2007. In that case I'll be surprised. Don't get me wrong we will make a huge profit in transfers. We will sell something between £60m to £100m this summer probably. Would expect at least £15m spent on new players.

Would expect at least £15m spent on new players. You’ll struggle to buy a top striker in the Championship for £15m now - look at some of the fees this season. Assombalonga was £15m, Neves £16m. With the departures, I’ll be very worried if we spend less than £25m.

Not too old for the Championship.. What about PL then? Since we will be playing there in 2018/19 ... 😉

Huth won the title only two years ago. So long as he's fit he'll be great in The Championship.

Thats the crux though isn't it, i do not think there is a Stoke fan who wouldn't want him back if he was fit but evidence would suggest he isn't/wouldn't be for long doesn't it? I absolutely loved the man & player, do we really want to taint what he means to us all if nothing else?

Badou in the Championship could do that. I don't think Badou will be here. But even so, why rely on Badou to cover for Huth instead of just buying a better, more mobile defender? We're hardly skint, i don't get why we can't just buy a good defender.
