Started watching it on I-Player last night. Am up to part three of series two. A wonderful blend of comedy and pathos and superb acting. Brilliant stuff. Never heard of it before so thanks for the heads up guys. OS. Have you watched Gone Fishing with Whitehouse and Mortimer, OS? If not, you'll enjoy that too.

Saw Mackenzie Crook on stage the other week in a play you would love: Jerusalem with Mark Rylance in the lead role.

Right, finished watching 'Detectorists' last night. Just brilliant and the ending was superb. (They should not make another series. Some things should be left to savour.) I was still chuckling at those magpies and their 'loot' when I went to bed last night. Thanks for the heads up, Guys. I really enjoyed that. OS.

It was on BBC 3 I think, starring Daisy Haggard, you'll probably get it on iplayer or Netflix. I liked it, two series of six episodes, a dark comedy with a good under story and some fine performances, good characters and running gags.

Just watched it, great to see most of the cast again. It would be good if there was another series next year but it just seems to be a final one-off special.

Not many laughs at all. Don't know if they got new writers in or they just ran out of ideas. I thought the way series three ended was perfect and wondered where they could possibly go from there. Seems like nowhere special was the answer. The best comedy shows always know when to call it a day and this seemed a step too far.

I loved the reactions when that bloke drank the lemonade.
But I would agree that, perhaps, this was a small step too far. Still enjoyed it though.

Thought it was great. The lighting and the beautiful locations as usual. Characters you care about. Couple of big laughs but its never been about a gag every 30 seconds show has it. Thought it was ace.

Looking forward to seeing it when it gets on Amazon or Netflix. Can't recall which service had it. I may need to re-watch the show as it seems like it's been at least five or so years since seeing it. The button collection presentation reminds me of many meeting at work.

I thought it was amazing, but it was the first and only episode I have ever seen so nothing to compare it against. That knockabout stuff they did where the farmer kept calling them metal detectors and they tried to explain they are metal detectorists and that the metal detectors were in the boot of the car was hilarious I thought. But perhaps that's a running joke throughout the series? And 'we're gonna need a bigger finds table' must be the best joke ever?! Like a scripted 'Gone fishing', it's about friendship really,

Thought they quite lazily retconned a perfect ending to the show. Was disappointed.

There wasn't really anywhere left for it to go, was there? All the relationships were sorted, there was very little interaction with Simon and Garfunkel which used to be some of the best bits, and they'd already found the 'treasure' at the end of season 3. Shame, it's been a superb programme. I'll have to see if I can get the kids into the reruns of Early Doors starting soon, now they're old enough to appreciate that kind of humour. I hope it's as good as I remember it!

Having seen some of the reviews here, I watched the latest special with little expectation. Maybe that helped in a way because I really enjoyed it. I agree that there wasn't much new in the way of storyline but that's part of the charm of something like The Detectorists... Its like slipping on a comfortable pair of old slippers.
It's the silly little things like the none reciprocated fist pump after the Simon and Garfunkel riposte that made me giggle.

Looks like the first episode is being aired on BBC2 tonight at 10pm, hopefully they are going to show them all for anyone who hasn't managed to catch this gem yet (think they are also all on the BBC iPlayer though).
