I think Hughes will keep Southampton up if he goes there. He tends to start well at most clubs. It might go pear shaped in a couple of years time but that's not going to help us now.

He’s actually a notorious slow starter at most clubs he’s been at. Then things gradually improve (until he either moves on or sticks around too long and they go shit again).

Whinges got better results more point for now the same games and our goal difference has now deteriorated under lambert because we can’t score . I don’t disagree we were doomed but that’s not all about Hughes what’s happening is merely proving no one could save this shower created by under investment and incompetence which were not by any means the sole preserve Hughes and co , ask a top chef to bake a cake and then tell hi him he has an egg white , no yolk. No milk and no sugar and see the result The improvement our defence has made since Lambert came in shows full well that we don't have a squad that should be going down. At least not defensively. Our goal difference has gone down by 1 under lambert, I'm not sure that shows anything at all. It is all about Hughes. A striker in January and better investment in summer would've helped, but with a decent manager we wouldn't be where we are. Spot on, playing three at the back and sticking to it time and time again was carnage.

Not sure he would take it, if they go down he would almost be labelled with taking two clubs down in one season..

Not sure he would take it, if they go down he would almost be labelled with taking two clubs down in one season.. Also he's not an on the bounce type of manager. Started very slowly in each of his five seasons here, then worked his way up the table. It worked for four seasons, fifth time disaster. On the other hand I reckon he is totally without regret about what happened. I don't mean that in a negative way. He was just always a what happens on the pitch stays there type of person. He doesn't bear too many grudges, though there are exceptions such as Clint Hill. He never was offended when a player turned him down for a transfer, always came back the year after, and even the one after this. However if he does get the job I don't see him coming back or going for for the likes of Arnie, Bojan, or Shaq. Each in their own way they all let him down badly. But he could try and sign Crouch and he can have him for free.

Makes things interesting.
On the balance of probabilities you would think he might keep them up, but he could also fall flat on his arse.

It may take years to recover from the mess he has left us in. No may about it. It's a five year project to get us back to where we were after Hughes first season. I'm not sure the owners will put the money in required or have to foresight to appoint a jokanovic type manager that could get us up.

His introductory round of media interviews could be interesting.
Will he take the opportunity to throw Coates, Scholes or the Pizza Boys under the bus?
