Can anyone tell me did Calvin attend Hanley High School? Yes according to his Facebook profile he went to Hanley High School and then Manchester University.

Oh gosh, very sad news.
Thanks for all the background, I sometimes pondered over why the Dallas and what age he might be...
He was a real message board staple.

Oh gosh, very sad news. Thanks for all the background, I sometimes pondered over why the Dallas and what age he might be... He was a real message board staple. RIP Gods - Calvin and I shared a love of the NFL. Moving to where he did he became a Dallas Cowboys fan, and while I'd been a fan of the NFL since the 1980s Channel 4 show, in 2008 I adopted the Jacksonville Jaguars as my team because of visits to Jax Beach to stay with my then girlfriend and later wife. When I lived there for 6 months they were my "local" team, and they were crap so ticked my support the underdog box. When Calvin moved to Jacksonville his former wife's employer would provide tickets for the Jaguars games so Calvin and Margaret would go and watch them. But he still maintained his allegiance for the Cowboys. That was one thing we didn't have in common - I couldn't stand the Cowboys! I had hoped that when the Cowboys played the Jaguars at Wembley a few years ago Calvin and I could have met up at the game. Unfortunately he moved to China a few months before the game. The bloody Cowboys won anyway! Calvin always maintained the Cowboys had the best cheerleaders in the NFL so maybe that was another reason he supported them!

Came as a bit of a shock to me. Calvin was one of life's good guys. (There are quite a few on here behind messageboard personas.) He was a well-educated chap who went to Hanley High and then on to Manchester University, eventually becoming a newspaper copy-editor. We met in real life and the stand-out thing to me was his friendliness; his bloody deep voice; the number of fags he used to smoke; his love of the produce of the city of his birth - Wedgwood, Spode etc., and his extensive knowledge of this club, which he loved with a passion. And he was proud that his real name was that of one of our former good players.
He asked me whether he should take the job offered to him in China. Despite being old-school and bloody good at his job, he was a bit pissed off that he couldn't get a job here in England considering the poor quality of copy-editing in some of our newspapers and media outlets. I told him that flash Jack the Lad's came before quality these days. He agreed with me and went to China.
At first he was lonely there. (Who wouldn't be when you're on your Jack Jones in a country of 1.2 billion people.) But he did make friends and was settling down. His students thought very highly of him and many are very saddened at the passing of Professor Palmer. Like AndyP says, he loved his photography, and would spend hours walking the streets of China taking pics of every day life there.
His one abiding passion was SCFC. He loved this club and had a great knowledge of it, especially the 70's, which he considered the golden era. It was the one thing he missed while he was in China. I remember a Meal in Shaffers. He was there with his booming voice and the late, great lamented winger was with us. It was a great night we had talking about all our yesterdays.
So there's one here who will sadly miss a grand lad and his many emails.
RIP Calvin, lad. There will be a little bit of Stoke in China that will be forever England and The Potteries, and especially Stoke City FC.
OS.

Very sad to hear this. I didn't know Calvin but we had exchanged a couple of messages because I'm in Beijing part time too. If anyone reading this knows if there is anything that I can help with I will be in Beijing for 4 weeks from March 5th. I work in shipping and I'm thinking particularly that if any of Calvin's personal effects need shipping back to the UK I can get this done for as close to no money as possible. I'm sure he had many friends in Beijing but please feel free to message me if there any practical help required and I'll do my best. Scott

RIP Calvin. It was pretty brave to up sticks and move to China. I’m very sorry to hear your journey’s come to an end. Stone Street to Beijing via the US! We sure get around these days. And yes to one earlier post - Dallas founded the Amigos. One of the greatest events in Oatcake history. You will be missed.
