Outstanding - added an extra dimension coming forward AND still did the nuts and bolts without a fuss. Looks the real deal.

He reminds me of Mikael Hansson, a very good underrated full back from the Icelander era. Bro in law and me were talking about this at the game, he was pretty quick too. Two cracking performances out of two for him so far, late bid for player of the season if he carries on like this.

Their left back was pretty quick too and did well to keep pace with Bauer a couple of times in the first half. Against a slower full back you could see him easily overlapping Shaqiri and leaving them for dead. Very promising start. He's a winger though, but I agree with what you're saying.

He looks like a very good solution to a long standing problem. Let's hope it continues. At the moment looks like an absolute bargain!

He’s super quick, puts in a tackle, knows how to draw a foul, has a footballing brain that sees him always take the right option and can cross a ball. I feel a bit sorry for Tom Edwards but this guys is the bees knees Has a pilot's license and plays the piano? A smart cookie. Could do with a few more like him.

A good signing by Hughes Isn't it a shame it didn't come 18 months ago, when we were crying out for a better right back?

Noticed Pieters soon gets 100% fit when a new left back appears, amazing.

Edwards will learn loads as his understudy, will improve him as they have similar styles.

Noticed Pieters soon gets 100% fit when a new left back appears, amazing. I don't think that's a fair comment. For all pieters faults he gives 100% every time he's on the field he's never one to shy a way from a game regardless of competition. Pieters has been beaten down on here through no fault of his own. He hasn't been at his best the last 12 months but he's also been played in a role that he simply isn't good enough in. He's a left back all day long never a wing back and yesterday was proof of that he was outstanding in fact the whole back 4 were which just goes to show that the problem was never with the personnel in that position just the one organising and training them. I'm actually looking forward to seeing what Wimmer can offer under a manager who has a clue defensively.

I never thought Pieters was ever going to be any good as a wingback and he had some very poor games trying to player as one, this could only have been under instructions as MLH had some dream about three at the back. In fairness to Pieters he has never shirked or hidden, he was hung out to dry by his manager. He has always given us whatever he could and when played as a left back has with a few exceptions been good. By the way Pieters had a great game yesterday as did all of our lads. It's true that the introduction of competition was needed, we need that for every position. This thread was started to praise Bauer not to have a go at others.

Wimmer was given a 5-year deal in 2016 by Spurs, and their goals conceeded in the (relatively small) number of games he played for them was good, both of which suggest that he may be a much better player than we have seen so far ( although I think he has had some OK games for us, as well as some poor ones, and that some of the assessments of him on here have been well OTT).

Won’t Bauer have an inside track on the new Watford manager(if appointed) with him being his manager at Ruben Kazan in his last job?Could be useful for the Watford game🤔

Who was that new guy Pieters on the other flank. He looked just like the old Pieters, but this one relished the physicality of the game. I noticed it March. He was straight in aggressively with tackles and didn’t over play or be our main outlet down the left as we all know his crossing is poor. But as a full back he’s very good. Was involved in the first goal aswell. We need to support the lad as he gives the shirt 200%

2 things I don't get:
1. In the crazy money Strewn world we live in, how the he'll did we get him so cheap. 2. Why was he not scouted by other clubs.
Btw I think he's immense so far.

Could we park this 'long' mythology. Hard and level were the key facets to Rory's throws.

Steady on guys, he`s made a decent start and looks very promising but let`s see how he copes with an out and out winger before praising him too much.

This lad could be one of the best signings we’ve made in recent years. Apart from his undoubted footballing abilities, he seems just the type of guy we should value around the club, intelligent, articulate and generally seems a nice guy.

Things go off at tangent, they always do. BTW, Pieters was an excellent defensive FB who made the occassional foray upfield. As a wingback he was poor and the defensive side of his game suffered as a result. He also 100% committed to his club and his team mates.

Could we park this 'long' mythology. Hard and level were the key facets to Rory's throws. I haven't seen anyone (including me) say Bauer's long throw is anywhere like as dangerous as Delap's. A long throw is a good weapon to have to keep pressure on, especially if chasing a goal late on, to be able to launch the ball into the opposition's box. Bauer's look longer than Cameron's.

Sorry Malcolm but I don't agree with your view that some of the comments about Wimmer have been OTT. Based on performances so far, he is undoubtedly unfit & over-weight for a professional footballer not to mention slow, cumbersome and lacking in even the basic skills required of a defender. In my opinion & that of many others I would imagine, he looks no better than a sunday league player. Fortunately, it looks as though Lambert has already sussed him out, unfortunately, we are probably stuck with the useless lump of lard for the next 5 years !
