It's funny you mention that
I drink in the bell in Shrewsbury. Billy Jones father does too. He said that that was going to happen to Billy too as Sunderland can't afford him. I wouldn't want him either btw despite pretending I would I Bill's dad.

The thing is he would expect the same wages at his next club despite doing nothing in the last few years to justify it.

He'll be in League 1 by this time next year, I guarantee it (if we haven't signed him first)

If Lambert can get the "Dog's Home" mentality to work as well as Pulis did, he's worth a chance if we could get him on Ireland-esque wages. Maybe a 12-month contract with an extension if he starts x amount of games, so we don't end up with players costing us squad places, and get to keep him if he's good.
Though I had faith Ireland could show how good he was again, I'm not so sure about Rodwell. He'll probably have a few offers from Championship clubs who'd pay him more than 10k a week.

RODWELL WON’T RIP UP DEAL
Jack Rodwell says he has no intention of ripping up his Sunderland contract and will only leave the club if a transfer can be arranged.
The three-time England international has not played in the Sky Bet Championship since September and has not made a senior appearance since Chris Coleman took charge at the Stadium of Light.
Sky Sports News understands Sunderland have offered to rip up Rodwell’s £70,000-a-week contract and allow him to leave the club for free, but Rodwell is not prepared to walk away from future earnings.
"I haven't put in a transfer request but I understand the club's stance and their position and, because of that, I understand it's beneficial for everyone if I move on,” he told the Daily Mail.
“But it's not the fault of any footballer if a club decides to pay you a certain amount."

Not saying he's a great player, but he's very useful. Several times this season I've thought, if only we had a player like Jones to play at lb, rb, rwb, cd, dm, cm...

He actually speaks some sense there, even though the amounts of money involved may be obscene. If he's signed a deal that says they will pay him x per week over x years, why should he agree to walk away from it to lessen the impact of the poor decisions made by their board? People may call him a greedy wanker or whatever but the mess they are in isn't Jack Rodwell's fault.

Why is he a tosser? I bet you would be the first to rip up a contract worth 70 grand a week?

there is something really wrong if he can`t get in that team . As a young player I thought he was going all the way to the top. Don`t know what`s happened along the way

How on earth is that an 'offer'. If they want rid they say he can go for free and until then they keep paying him...Or they release him and pay out his remaining contract (redundancy pay).

He knows that his career is over once his contract at Sunderland runs out, can’t blame him.

When Seth Johnson signed for Leeds. 'The story of Johnson's contract negotiations with Leeds have passed into legend, a chilling damnation of Ridsdale's spendthrift regime.
It goes as follows: Johnson had been earning £5,000 a week at Derby and his agent told him he wouldn't settle for less than £13,000 a week at Leeds. Ridsdale's opening gambit, however, surprised them both. "Right, I'm sorry, I can only offer you £30,000 a week," he said. Around the table jaws dropped in genuine shock. "Oh, all right then," said Ridsdale, filling the silence, "£37,000." '
Funny story however many say it's untrue!

What the club are asking of him is totally unreasonable and ridiculous. He's right to stand his ground.

Only cares about himself. Given his footballing career is pretty much over he has to take as much money as he can get from it now. I don’t blame him at all. Sunderland signed the contract so they should pay him what they agreed.

He's saying it's about the football, not the money, so how about we renew your contract, with a 50% wage deduction?
