That's how I saw Eddies comments regarding Bauer last night.
"He was outstanding, absolutely outstanding."
"BOWEN spotted him"
"HUGHES signed him"
To me it was a big fuck off to Cartwright and Scholes and suggested Hughes et al haven't been impressed with how others seemingly controlled transfers.

He's just praising a mate and a player, no conspiracy theories here.

He had a good debut game. It would seem obvious that the coach in charge should compliment him.
Had he not what would be the reaction of the player, let alone the fans on here ?

Fair enough for him to praise Bowen for spotting him .
I wish I knew exactly how we sign players , it remains a mystery despite all of the gossip .
All that I can say form my own perspective is that If I were Hughes and was getting players bought that I did not want they wouldnt play , TP did that with the Icelandics and got the sack.
I would speak to the Coates family and express my concerns.
Ultimately if it carried on to the point that I believed that I could no longer do my job well and felt the team posed a risk to my reputation and could afford to financially , I would resign before the players that others wanted dragged me down .
The fact that he didnt suggests he was happy with most of them . I'm sure he didnt get his n0 1 choices , thats life very few of us do .
None of it excuses the way the team has been playing though .

It also contradicts the theory that MH had no input into signings

I got the feelings he may have been making a point that the gang of 3 could make good signings and that some of the others may not have been their work. Generally it remains shrouded in mystery but when you looked at the powers that be closeted in the stand at OT last night it seems Cartwright still has his feet under the table.

Definitely a big call out for his old muckers, the subliminal message being "Come and rescue me from this hell hole when you yourselves have landed"

He certainly made a point of it didn't he. Why on earth anyone would like to stake a claim to our recent recruitment though is beyond me!

He certainly made a point of it didn't he. Why on earth anyone would like to stake a claim to our recent recruitment though is beyond me! The interview on the Stoke City Player on the Official Site had more the feeling of 'on the psychologists chair' than a post-match prezzer didn't it? It was an extraordinary and at times painful baring of the soul!

It's a shame we didn't hear Bowens story about why we couldn't compete.

Makes you wonder what constraints they have been operating under and what the untold story is.

Doesnt Cartwright have links to certain agents and generally works on those?
Whoever suggested Wimmer at 18M needs taking out the back and put to sleep.
I cant believe that Wimmer could even look good on a Youtube montage to be honest.

How did his value increase from the £4m Spurs paid for him to the £18m we paid Spurs in the 2 years during which he played fewer than 10 hours of 1st team football? I fear we will have to wait for the autobiographies though by which time no one will any longer care!

Does anybody know who the guys in the training gear were and what their roles are? who were talking to PL and Cartwright in the stands last night.

Surely someone on here knows someone close to the club that can find out who's making the fucking signings?!

I just think he saying his mate had done well.
Hughes was the main person with transfers, as it should be.

I thought the clubs self sufficiency was Cartwright's modus operandi, buying players we can sell for a profit e.g. Wimmer and Berahino. He's just not very good at it and someone who can do it should be employed asap.

Tbf a few players at Stoke got the cold sholder from Hughes, and Imbula & Berahino stand out as prime examples. I get the feeling Wimmer has only played as often as he has out of necessity rather than choice too...

As Hughes signed him what are we employing Carto for exactly?

It's been mentioned in passing that Eddie has had a painful week and I think part of it might be that his loyalties feel divided between his old mates Hughes and Bowen, and a very stable club in the Potteries that treats people decently and has a solid foundation for really achieving something in football terms. It's been strange that he stayed on to take charge last night, and I really hope he sticks around as people within the club seem to really respect him.

I just think he saying his mate had done well. Hughes was the main person with transfers, as it should be. I don't think so. Everyone expects the manager/assistants to be the people who pick players to sign. He was at pains to point out that Bowen and Hughes had sorted Bauer and look at how good he is. Why bother? The only reason imho was to have a thinly veiled dig at those who have picked out the other dross

Again, just bigging up his mate after he was sacked.
