I have often wondered why Robert Huth was sold to Leicester. Their fantastic run started the day Huth played for them. To break up the Huth/Shawcross partnership seemed a bit odd. Huth had a few injuries and Hughes couldn't guarantee him regular starts. Wollscheid was also in mostly excellent form. I think one of Hughes failings has been letting players go too easily, when he couldn't guarantee them first-team football. He needed to be more selfish for Stoke City. He managed to keep hold of a few who are pretty useless though , Wolfy was on loan for six months and was far from excellent.

Blimey he is on about the improvement in their fitness levels, they must have been really unfit.

He didn't just unceremoniously break it up though did he? Huth got injured and was out for ages. He'd been struggling with the change in style before his injury and in his limited minutes on his return didn't really look at it either. In his absence we finished ninth three times. Some players just need a change of scenery. Huth went on to win the PL with Leicester, Wolfy went on to well eerrrmmmmm the dole Replacing him with Wollscheid was an almighty bollock dropped, no question. Huth suited Leicester and how they played better than how Hughes, even good Hughes, when we were playing well, set up his teams. Had Huth stayed I don't think he'd have made much difference to anything.

If a player who played for him week in week out came along and called him a tosser I would be inclined to take a bit more notice. I bet there are not many managers out there who have not pissed off a player or two in their time...
