McClaren is a bad manager but a very good coach I have heard. They would make as good a team to guide us as we could get at the moment! As a manager, would you want an ex-manager of numerous clubs waiting in the wings behind you ?

Ex Stoke defender John Butler has been mentioned to and gets my vote.

This could prove to be interesting as his normal faithful two over many years were suspended when at Villa ( never to return ) Stuart Taylor was Number two at Wolves with Tony Daley as fitness coach. Stuart Taylor the reserve goalkeeper everywhere he went? Inspiring No, a different Stuart Taylor. The one you refer to is still playing (currently 3rd choice GK at Southampton).

Steven Ireland is finished at Stoke anyway, it’s time he moved down a league or two if he wants to continue his career. Probably our best player last night 2013?

If he continues like that maybe he will be of use for the rest of the season, I doubt he will be playing every week though.

Perhaps we could persuade Graham Potter with a view to taking over in 2.5 years... "Hi Graham, Paul Lambert here. Fancy sacking off the knock-out stages of the Europa League and a shot at glory in Swedish domestic football to be my assistant where it'll be a coin-flip as to whether we're playing Championship football in August......Gra....hello? Oh, he's gone. Get me Gary Megson on the phone pronto!" Or alternatively ‘Hi Graham, how do you fancy helping me turn around your home town team, becoming a local hero while earning a kings ransom as my assistant and getting ready to succeed me as manager in a old school Merseyside boot room style that you know the Coates will love’....it’s all in the delivery 😉

Who is the bald headed guy who was training them before kick off then? Someone called Jim Henry apparently, who was fitness coach at Celtic when Lambert played there - and followed Martin O'Neill to Villa and Sunderland. Also been at Hibs and Rangers - and most recently at Bury!

Also been at Hibs and Rangers - and most recently at Bury! He looked dead scarey close up Saturday!!! I can imagine there ain't gonna be much skiving with him about the training field. I also noticed the other guys from Pulis Hughes days were still there as well so be interesting to see who stays in that echelon of people. Must be hard for them TBH!

As a manager, would you want an ex-manager of numerous clubs waiting in the wings behind you ? Didn't bother Pulis having Jerry Francis or Peter Reid around. I think as long as you know you've got good owners who're not going to screw you over,at the first sight of hard times you're alright. I think Coates has proved he's certainly not knee-jerk when it comes to sacking managers.
