Getting Shawcross and Indi back together will go a long way towards saving our season. Drop Zouma then ???.

Who're they nailing to that cross that passes by in the background at 3:22? Am I missing something, the video is only 1:19 long?

Everyone is slagging off the defenders, but you’ve only got to look at a few examples of how much of an impact the manager has. Just the first couple jumping out at me Williams at Everton this season before and after Allerdyce’s arrival, West Brom’s defence before and after Pulis’ arrival and the most extreme example from a few years back, John Terry under AVB and Mourinho.
If you play a post back injury Shawcross, you have to use him as an all out defender, and when we have the ball he should be doing nothing but focusing on his team’s shape or playing a simple 10 yard pass to his right back 9 times out of 10. I wouldn’t even get him to go up for corners given we have full backs like Cameron and Pieters who aren’t exactly short arses who can go up instead. For a while it looked like he was being told to play like a Zouma or Bruno and dribble out with the ball, which is just daft now. Same with Wimmer.
A bit of tinkering with the positions players take, and someone having the brains to play a couple of centre backs that compliment each other like one of Shawcross/Wimmer with one of Bruno/Zouma and it would make a huge difference, instead of playing a random 3 each week with no one really appearing sure when to stay back or push on.
If there isn’t a marked improvement under the new manager then slag away at the defenders, but I’d be pretty surprised if somebody can’t make this squad solid enough to at least start keeping clean sheets against the lower half teams on a reasonably regular basis pretty quickly.

He has the energy of Cameron and a lot more skill on the ball. Whether Zouma (or Chelsea?) would be happy if he is played there, I don't know, but I live in hopes that the new manager will give it a try - assuming he plays four at the back.

Well said Captain, now let’s see it on the pitch for the rest of the season from the whole squad. Get behind the next manager and we’ll get behind the team

When the new manager is appointed won’t it be interesting to see how quickly the players out injured are suddenly 100% fit and raring to go ?

I think the defenders have made some poor errors at times but you defend as a team , we did it against Man U and Arse at home and looked better for it but increasingly the forwards and midfield have offered almost zero protection and unless we get that work ethic out of them all we wont improve

I think the defenders have made some poor errors at times but you defend as a team , we did it against Man U and Arse at home and looked better for it but increasingly the forwards and midfield have offered almost zero protection and unless we get that work ethic out of them all we wont improve I agree with than and again, you’d think given our league position we’d be best having 2 defensive minded midfielders sat in front of the defence who know exactly what they are meant to be doing. Instead it seemed like both Fletcher and Allen were meant to be doing the job most teams would assign to 3 players. It means you end up with Fletcher horribly out of position if the ball was given away and only Allen being capable of running back to cover; and it’s not really feasible for him to manage that all game if the opposition have 2 or even 3 mobile midfielders. I’m not pro Pulis, in the sense I want to keep harping back to his days, Id never want him back unless we ended up in a relegation battle in the league below to be honest... but at least he had the sense to use Delap or Whelan as someone who’s main focus was filling any gaps when we attacked, to avoid being ripped apart by counters too easily. All I’m saying is a new manager, as long as it’s a decent one, shouldn’t really struggle to get an extra 10% out of most of the first 11, and that should hopefully make a huge difference.
