Welcome back - and a happy New Year to you both !
Well the inevitable finally happened yesterday after months of poor performances and continual further regression. Hughes should have been sacked last summer after last season's decline, but Peter Coates commendably, or in many fans eyes misguidedly, decided to stick with him. Sadly the Chairman's trust was not repaid and our decline has continued, finally culminating in the total surrender at Chelsea, the woeful home loss against Newcastle, and yesterday's complete debacle at Coventry. After such a promising first 2 years as manager our decline has been alarming and sadly it was long overdue for Hughes to go.
The question also being asked by many fans is if Hughes was the only person responsible for our situation. Certainly he was ultimately responsible for the on the pitch fiasco, but surely questions should also be asked about Scholes and Cartwright's roles in this as our transfer dealings have been a complete disaster for several windows. Their roles together with a serious lack of net spending by Peter Coates, coupled with some very poor signings have left us in an extremely precarious position which the new manager will have to work hard to try to extricate us from.
Hopefully the Board will have learned important lessons from this episode, particularly about self-sustainability versus necessary investment in the team, and it is paramount that they can appoint the right man to preserve our Prem status this season and also move us forward in the future. Numerous names are being touted already but it is vital that the Board appoint the right man and as soon as possible.
I had no confidence whatsoever that we would avoid relegation under Hughes. With a new manager with fresh ideas, even just a fresh voice to get his message across to the players, it will still be difficult to ensure our survival but I feel much more positive and confident that we will escape the drop.
It's been an awful period but at long last the future looks brighter.

Massive massive week coming up for our club with the decision on who becomes our next manager.Do we go for experience or do we go and try and prize Rowett out of Derby?Personally j can’t see Rowett leaving Derby because of his all round connection with the club. My own opinion on this is I’d try and get Neville out of Sky(don’t laugh)and get an experienced Number 2 alongside him(Phelan Maybe). Many will say no chance but I believe he’ll prove to be a top manager one day if someone gives him that opportunity.

We all can be thankful that the Stoke Board have finally made a decision, but far too late. I found Hughes pleasant as a man, but inept as a football manager. Unfortunately I guess that they have missed the chance to appoint Gary Rowett, so I assume they will need a crisis manager to steer the Club through the remainder of the season. I have no idea who this might be, but he needs far more ability than Sparky could muster to pull the whole sinking ship together without the time to recruit additions to the squad. Hopefully Scholes and Cartwright can raise their game and do this for him.

Hughes dismissing was 100% the correct decision. But I do fear we've left it too late. I pray to the football god's that our new manager can get us clicking. I would be happy with just 1-0 wins if it means staying up. Where has it gone so wrong for him? From playing sleek liquid football to lumping it upto Crouch.

Greetings from the heartland where is effing freezing. Looking forward to the show. ‘’The king is dead, long live the king” - as long as it’s not Martin O’Neil, which would be failing to learn from the lessons of history”. Good managers of small national teams don’t generally make good Premier League managers.

He had to go
Would like Rowett or if at all possible, Benitez.
Rowett looks like he can at least organize a side. Pulis didn't have real PL experience either when he got Stoke promoted.

Whoever we do take on for manager needs to come in as soon as possible. Needs to have an input into the January transfer window, so the end of this week even is not good. Rodgers from Celtic would be my choice. Premiership experience and more excitement going forward.

Can you just answer me, why do people see slaven bilic as a good candidate? What am I missing?
Bilic in his final days at west ham looked like a man with the motivation of a prisoner on death row. He was beaten.
Just what is the appeal will bilic? I don't get it

On another note, it seems all the players have declined under Hughes not just Zouma. Players look terrible I'm convinced the new management team will make these lot look better than they have been showing. Not least in fitness & knowing their jobs

Russ how the hell can you say you think Rowett would walk here🙄No wonder Derby fans are slagging us off with attitudes like that. You’ve not listened to a word I’ve told you about the Rowett situation at Derby on Twitter lately🙄As Ange would say DELUDED

The whole club is culpable. The majority voted with their feet at the end of last season and yet the board just ignored it.
I have no idea if Hughes had control over signings, but one can not deny his formations and especially his substitutions were beyond comprehension
Mr Coates needs a long hard look in the mirror. As much as he has done for this club, he has also allowed this current situation to play itself out and pretty much any supporter could see it coming
To sack a manager in a transfer window is beyond incompetent
As a squad I have no idea anymore what we have - is it Hughes? or have we a squad who just cant play football? Right now we look lost and the first half against Coventry was beyond embarrassing I have seen better nogger at Lads annd Dads

No matter who we have as the manager, there is a concern about the fitness and professionalism of the team. Quality training is more important than quantity. Get the players up Northwood stadium Tuesday and Thursday interval training on the track, when there only games at the weekend. The FA cup week we must go to Kenya altitude training.
The sustainability goal needs shelving for two to three years now.
My team for Manu game Butland Edwards Zouma Wimmer Timone Allen Adam Ramadan Shaqiri (in a free role) Choupo-Motting Ngoy

I can't believe Chris Wilder is not getting more mentions as his record is outstanding with a higher win percentage than Rowett but if the new manager must have premier league experience then Koeman also has great stats at nearly everywhere he's been, even at Everton he won more than he lost with a positive goal difference which would be a start!

Any chance that Pearson and Megson could team up again as a partnership at the Bet 365?

West Ham Utd have appointed Moyes AND added Stuart Pearce to their staff
Maybe we should look at this sort of option, even one experienced man at the helm and another to work alongside
