O’Neill had Lerner over a barrel at the time, he made his demands and the owners put it all together. So multi millionaire businessman gives in to his managers demands on a whim ruining the club ? Come off it. The chief exec and chairman are much more to blame than the manager. The manager makes requests the chairman writes the cheques. Whilst O Neil isn't completely blameless in the whole situation it stops at lerners door. You’re right but what if he doesn’t meet his demands, he leaves simple as that. Villa were relatively successful in that era and Lerner put his absolute faith in the demands of his manager, he trusted him.

Amazing isn't it, when I suggested we should be looking at Rodgers a year ago I was ridiculed? Now he seems the overwhelming choice on here along with Rowett. Funny that.

I've voted for Rowett, and Potter, but the guy I'd really like isn't in the poll, (And I know its not going to happen)
Mike Phelan.
British - Ticks PC's box,
Played at the highest level, winning every domestic trophy & ECWC.
He was Sir Alex Ferguson's right-hand man during three Premier League title wins, a Club World Cup, two League Cups and two runs to the final of the UEFA Champions League.
He was the public face of Man Utd for 3 seasons, and has plenty of experience of dealing with the media.
Took over a Hull team that had been promoted, that was totally unsuited to the Premier League, that the owners refused to invest in to the extent that Bruce walked away at the start of the season, and yet he still instilled an organisation and spirit that produced performances that kept them in touch, even winning a manager of the month award along the way.
To add insult to injury, when he reached the January window, still in the hunt for staying up, the board wouldn't back him yet again, but instead bought in another manager, and gave him the money to spend.

I find it fascinating that even though you can choose 3 people to vote for, even the 2 front runners have a third of the voters not voting for them. Does that mean that yet again, we are going to have a huge number of fans thinking/saying/posting "Rowett (for example) out" before the bloke even has a fair crack at the whip?
I hope not. Like I said before, The King is dead. Long live the King!

And talking of "realistic" choices .... how is Rodgers any more realistic than Dyche? If we are truly showing ambition, I believe Laurent Blanc or Luis Enrique would be on the slate of possibilities. But, in the cold light of day, we are a small club I guess.

Good points - but you just chose to ignore the fact that he ran out of steam after 3 months in the job.

Like I said before, The King is dead. Long live the King! If we got Rowett or Rodgers, then there's not the slightest doubt in my mind that the supporters would unite behind either one of them from the off. Hughes came here to try and repair his reputation after the disaster of QPR, it was a completely different situation to what it would be if Rowett or Rodgers joined us.

Gone for Koeman, Rodgers & Mancini as the best possible replacements. Although I don't know a great lot about Rowett but he seems to be everyones favourite.

Under normal circumstances Rowett might be a good choice, however with a threat of relegation it's a risky choice.
He's done very well at Burton and Derby but that doesn't give us any real idea how he would cope in a PL relegation battle, play safe and go for MON.

My thoughts exactly, I'd be more comfortable with him if Hughes had left for another job and we were mid table and doing OK but him coming in with the squad being in such a mess and fighting for our lives would be too much of a risk for me.

Potter all the way! It's got the scent of Arsene at Arsenal, something that's meant to be. He'll be our manager for 25 years, might as well start now.

How long will we wait for that, it is better for the team to make the decision today before tomorrow ..

Can this be updated by any chance Rosette out QSF in? You can't update them apparently! Typical if a bloke not on the list gets it!

Hello FM I know these always fall to you but is there any worth/chance of redoing this now if it cannot be amended? Especially now that Rowett is out and the Bilic link has been dismissed? Obviously including Flores and maybe Johnson? Cheers Onner

Nigel Pearson stands for no nonsense!!! Do you mean nonsense like fighting off packs of wild dogs and strangling opposition players for no apparent reason? If so count me in - sounds ideal.

What is the point of these threads? they won't have any bearing on who is coming in.
Just let's see who the manager is going to be.

The hilarious thing is that the pace of the rumours is moving so fast, and the latest 'favourite' didn't even make the original list. I think it speaks volumes.
