He should be captain, at times he looks like he only player on the field who actually gives a shit. - and probably the only guaranteed senior starter, given the number of injuries we have!

Stoke have already said they're not selling him! Correction. Mark Hughes said he wasn't for sale, big difference!

The only way I'd sell Allen to Celtic would be Dembele and Nitcham + 5 million quid.

£15m West Ham bid rejected With David Moyes determined to bring in an energetic midfielder – of even two – the Hammers went in with bids of £15 million for Bournemouth’s Harry Arter and Stoke City’s Joe Allen.
They were turned down flat by both relegation threatened clubs who told them that their attentions were unwelcome and that they need not try again.

Good money for him - but no way we could have sold him Yes, certainly one of Hughes' better buys and a gross profit of £12 million had we wished to cash in. Sadly, it doesn't go very far to cancelling out the £50 million we spent on the infamous three degrees - none of whom make the starting eleven. Like you I'm glad we didn't cash in. Hopefully with players like Withnail around him, he will be even more influential in future. Bayern, of course, would happily have driven him to London on deadline day!

Shame it didn't happen in the summer.
Allen out, N'Diaye in would have been nice.
Obviously with 2 more midfielders of a first team quality too.

Not really, it would have been a total capitulation and the board would probably have been lynched.

Allen has been fantastic the last few weeks. The amount of times he intercepts and starts counters, then for our inability in the final 3rd to absolute waste the chance.
Think him and N'Diaye will be great together once they gel, only fear is that its too little too late and Allen would be long gone should we go down.

To play devil's advocate I don't think he's denying that. The issue is that he isn't creative enough to be an attacker nor disciplined enough to be a defensive midfielder. He has to play with a disciplined defensive midfielder next to him, and N'diaye the exact same from what little I can tell. He, N'diaye and Cameron are the only midfield group we can start with, and it leaves us completely without creativity. If we'd sold him and replaced him with a similar type of player with a bit more quality on the ball it would've been fine. Hopefully N'diaye is that type. The issue Bayern's alluding to is that because we have Joe Allen, there seems to be no clamour from the board or the management to sign a proper defensive mid, that we need so badly. The exact same issue for number 10 too. Our midfield has been an issue since N'zonzi left, we haven't had a creative midfielder since we loaned out Bojan and the only defensive mid we have is Cameron, who's passing is generally a bit crap.

I sort of understand but don't really agree. Allen is our best player let alone our best midfielder. You could put any type alongside him. A dog of a destroyer or a Jack Wilshere visionary type but for God's sake we need to keep him.

I love Joe Allen, I love his commitment, energy and hunger..... However, I can't help thinking that these are his traits that he creates himself!!!
His bombing around to win the ball back are creating more space for the opposition!!! He wouldn't have to ware himself out if he held his position more!!!
Can't help but love his attitude though!!!

Probably a load of bollocks, trying to placate fans, they can't realistically think Stoke would sell him to them. If they did make a bid just for effect.

Who leaves more space than anyone else? A massive part as to why we're so bad in the midfield. We were bad in midfield long before he even arrived. I've said it loads on here but even with Zonze and Whelan we occasionally got overrun(there were threads on about it at the time). This was before Whelan completely lost it, as well. Teams cut through us, and even then the keeper was bailing us out. Norwich away was a perfect example of this. Then, for a time, Zonze and Whelan clicked. I personally feel N'Zonzi was the key, though, because when he went our shitty midfield problems resurfaced. I think it's a myth that we had a great midfield and Joe Allen fucked it up.

What everyone needs to realise is that Allen replaced Bojan in the 10 slot. For his quality on the ball the chance to pick out cracking passes to drift pass players with ease. Always positive never gives the ball away.
I would take £2.50 for the useless twat.
I have said cannot be faulted for running but the rest of his game is woeful. The bin dippers were pissing themselves when we signed him.
