We'll find out tomorrow when they do the Coventry press conference. One things for certain, the Coventry manager and players are loving this.

It all depends whether the relationship between LMH and the Board has completely broken down or not. If it has broken down - then I can see the Board doing exactly as you suggest. I'm not saying I agree with that course of action. If the relationship is still all hunky dory, then all of this really makes no sense at all. I'm becoming more and more convinced that there has been a complete and utter breakdown. It's bizarre. If they don't back him publicly, then he'll know he's toast and he'll know that the press will know he's toast. If they're sticking with him, then come out and say so. If they were backing him as you say, something would have come out. I think the board are probably trying to sort a replacement but will keep hughes and his staff in place until one is found. They may be worried they don't sort it out, and if so hughes carries on. All meaning we will not be signing players this window, which is the most important thing. This limbo will seal our fate if it wasnt already

Do you think we will sign anyone this window beyond loan deals? I would have thought it higly unlikely given the chances of the grim reaper calling in May. Wed already be taking wat too much dead wood in to the Championship, we'd be financially crippled.

No no no! Why? What a terrible dicision, we have to wait until Huddersfield which is when he’ll probably get the chop having wasted two plus weeks of precious rebuilding time and new player negotiations- utterly ridiculous decision and one that might well and truley arse things up. I hope not

Bizarre really being an appropriate word with this situation. Over the last couple of months my thinking has changed quite a bit. I now believe that, the policy of self sufficiency (with all that that entails), has now come home to roost. That policy, to work, needed transfers to be successful, if not all the time, most of the time. Over the last eighteen months or so, as far as I can see, there have been some absolutely disastrous signings - it was bound to happen eventually I suppose. Imbula probably being the iceberg that could sink the ship. Although I believe that the time Hughes should have been replaced was months ago, I don't necessarily blame Hughes. The system of player transfers is the culprit IMO. Had the Imbula transfer worked, I don't think that we would be anywhere near the situation that we now find ourselves in. What the hell went wrong with him? I can see easily why he was bought, but what on earth happened?

That's why they need to stop dithering and make a clear decision one way or the other and back the manager, be it Mark Hughes or somebody else. If we're going to have any chance of staying up, then we're going to need new players regardless of who the manager is and the clock is already ticking on this window.

Never mind bringing new blood, which we will not whilst we are still in limbo, we'll probably end up losing Joe Allen, Shaq and Butland, all undoubtedly at bargain prices, before January ends. If anything sums up relegation, it will be watching a midfield 3 of Fletcher, Adam and Ireland getting ripped open week in, week out. Its ridiculous. The board say that theres no one better than Sparky out there, but frankly, in our position, we might as well gamble because we will be fucked anyway.

Does Hughes still have that same agent? The one with some "murky" previous dealings (allegedly! Only what I read in the press claimed by some journo!)

Oh absolutely. I was agreeing with Glasgow's point that the only reason they haven't sacked him yet is in case that plan falls through, they will still then have Hughes to carry on if need be.

As far as I can tell, the silence implies that something is happening. As daft as that sounds. Indeed. But can they let him walk into that press conference tomorrow and still be only offering total silence? It'll be like throwing a child to the lions. Enter Mark Bowen: "The gaffer has caught a cold"!

Dithering by the board or not we will lose a week in the transfer window. The team needs fresh blood or impetus. No movement means exactly that, no movement.
What concerns me most is a Blackburn/Venkys situation developing, everything was fucked, the fans screamed and protested vehemently every week yet Venkys made no movement.
It was pure awful hell for Blackburn and they’ve never recovered.
Please don’t let this happen to my beautiful Stoke.

I agree, we are blundering along very reminiscent to how Venky's "handled" the Blackburn fiasco. Hopefully things are happening behind the scenes (although I have my doubts) but precious time in this transfer window is being lost. Complete and utter shambles on and off the pitch !

Its a shambles of huge proportions which for Stoke is sadly all too familiar. Can't imagine what sort of statement Dave's views alludes to from the board, either they sack him or come out and say they are fully behind him which they clearly aren't. Its a mess for sure and even if we beat Coventry it won't go away.

It's a very weird situation. It's hardly a ringing endorsement of the management is it? We are paying for not acting a lot sooner. I thought PC and Co. had turned the corner with bad management. This feels the same as Coates and Humpty Dumpty all those years ago. Didn't know what to do and lurching from one bad decision to another. I guess a leopard never changes it spots.

Coates has been a saviour of the club in recent times. I get the feeling Coates is no longer in charge but his daughter and she's the one that wants it run as cheaply as possible with a transfer team etc. She simply doesn't share the passion.

They need to decide NOW because we are in the transfer window.
Without a new midfield we don't have a chance of surviving anyway.
Rather than this limbo I would actually prefer the board to say hughes is staying, and actually BACK him in this window, right NOW and start signing players even if that means spending over the odds.
It will only take a couple of decent midfielders so that we can close down that space in midfield and get a platform in the game, in attacking areas the quality is there.

That would be the usual way of dealing with a situation like this. I think that sometimes SCFC think that if they respond to a situation once, it will become expected that they always will be expected to respond. So keep silent.

Nah, Coates has always come out and backed his man before when he's been under pressure, now Hughes is under severe pressure with more speculation than there's ever been and there's not a peep out of the club. Hughes knows he's toast unless Stoke fail to nail their target. It will be an extremely strange situation if they don't though.
