Chatting today with someone and the surname Found was mentioned. It had never occurred to me that it was a shortened form of foundling.

The history of names is so fascinating. My Christian name, George, comes from the Greek "Georgos" which means a farmer or a tiller of the soil. My ancestors came to Stoke-on-Trent in the 1750s from Lincolnshire (Epworth to be precise) to find work in the then embryonic ceramics industry. They were all poor tenant farmers seeking a better life.
Coincidence? I don't know.
