Operation Mincemeat and all that. There's a brilliant Documentary which backs it up, with the story of Glenwyr Michael, the tragic tramp. Mantagu, Cholmondley, the fella in the Tartan trews etc. The 'real life' chaps, the Bletchley folk and all that. Fantastic stuff, and best bit of box I've seen so far this Yule. Wedged in between cooking and carry ons.

Anyone see The Heroes of Telemark (1965) yesterday? Superb film (with a few embellishments) about the plot to destroy a huge hydro-electric plant in occupied Norway which the Nazis had built to develop their own atomic bomb. A relief from the usual Christmas TV garbage.
How many people today know that the Nazis were on the brink of developing an atomic bomb? Had the war continued a year longer the world would be a very different place.

It seems that because the missus has a full diary of in-law visits, dog walking and sales shopping I've been let off games this Christmas between late morning and mid afternoon which I've been able to enthusiastically fill with telly watching. Gone with the Wind from start to finish, which was a first. Chariots of Fire which I've never seen before. I did a back-to-back Operation Crossbow and Operation Daybreak and got reacquainted with the Back To The Future trilogy.

Watched a documentary featuring Albert Speer in which he said the only thing that held Germany back from developing a nuclear weapon was that Hitler considered it to be 'Jewish' science/technology, Einstein etc. He didn't want to be reliant on or encourage that kind of thing apparently.

They ended up firing their V2's at their own bridge, The Ludendorff Bridge, some hitting nearby towns, it was also the first sighting of a jet aircraft as Hitler threw everything he had to destroy it after the explosives failed to blow it up and the Americans captured it.

The world was very lucky that they made some mistakes, forcing out Jews in 1933, they had lot of scientific knowledge into it, and then mid war diverting resources from Nuclear bombs to more conventional ammuntion, plus some staff from the programme were conscripted into the Army.

I find it unique. The scene of Cameron in the art gallery or booting his Dad's car is dark. The talking to the audience was a very different approach for a 'teen' movie.

What if they’d stuck that Atomic bomb on a V2 rocket? They ended up firing their V2's at their own bridge, The Ludendorff Bridge, some hitting nearby towns, it was also the first sighting of a jet aircraft as Hitler threw everything he had to destroy it after the explosives failed to blow it up and the Americans captured it. The wife’s grandfather was a photographic reconnaissance pilot as part of 106 Group flying from RAF Medmenham in Bucks. He was mentioned in dispatches twice, once was for discovering the V2 rocket launch site in Pennemund. He flew unarmed spitfires loaded with cameras up to 30000 ft high and almost 400 mph.

I've been to Peenemunde. They have a museum all about the V rockets. It was quite the place back in the day. Where all the rich Berliners went for their summer hols and the nazi commanders enjoyed the beaches in the summer.

Good title for post. Could be very apt regarding players for Stoke (or any team) if you added.. " a footballer". We'll start with Berra then add Wimmer and that's just from the present team!
