And even that's showing more ambition than the management or owners. Gouranga.

It'd mean we'd definitely lose Shaqiri and Butland. Likely some others too. I'd be very worried for next season if we can't force our way up to at least 12th.

Stoke will be fine and will end up mid table. Our points per game this calendar year is 1.11... This season we've averaged 1pt per game, so as bad as we were in the last half of last season, we're even worse now. This suggests we'll finish somewhere between 38pts - 40pts (without continuing the year-on-year trend and accounting for a further gradual decline in form). Mid table requires something like 48pts.... It's far more likely we'll be close to the drop (or in it) than sitting pretty in mid table I'm afraid.

But to answer the question, if somebody guaranteed me that Hughes would stay until May, we would definitely finish 17th, and that a proper search for his replacement would start now culminating in a decent long-term replacement coming at the end of May.... Then hell yeah.

I would take 17th without a doubt because the way its looking we will finish lower than that with Hughes in charge.

You've not been keeping up with all the posts on here. There were people posting today that if Stoke end up in 11th position tomorrow night, it will only be because the 9 teams below us are all rubbish.

Staying in the Premiership is a must. 17th.keeps us there,so yes. But changes have to be made for the 18/19 season,or even 17th. Will be beyond us.

Peter Coates may have checked the stats when Hughes was manager of Fulham, after 19 games he had got just 19 points, yet finished in 8th place.
I'm pretty certain Hughes will turn this round, but if the Chairman loses his nerve we will never know.

As the quote in this report shows a defensive job was done on TP's Stoke: news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/9306533.stmFinal table: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010–11_Stoke_City_F.C._seasonIronically Fulham demolished Spurs 4 - 0 that season too....

Nope, I think we can push for 15th. You'd gamble certain avoidance of relegation against finishing just two places higher? Really? I'd rip your arm right off with both hands for a guarantee of finishing 17th right now.

How many points did we get last season compared to the teams we have already played this season ? That’s not the point. This time last year we were showing signs of improvement. Right now we’re circling the drain.

I'm pretty certain Hughes will turn this round, but if the Chairman loses his nerve we will never know. I’m sick and tired of this “Hughes always starts slowly” bullshit. Even if it’s true that Hughes will turn things around, the vast majority have had enough of wasting the Summer instead of hitting the ground running in August with the preferred formation and starting line up. It’s no wonder the transfer team can’t sign the right players if they don’t understand the system that the coach wants to play. They chased Berahino for three years only to find out Hughes had no idea how he was going to use him. The man is an idiot.

If Stoke City can obtain 6 points from the Burnley-West Ham-West Brom games, they will make the turn at 22 points and will stay up......

That’s not the point. This time last year we were showing signs of improvement. Right now we’re circling the drain. We won Arsenal and Southampton . we got a point at West Brom. Up 7 points . sadly -1 point for losing at Man city. When we drew last season. We are a much better team this season. it points that matter. Losing one nil or 7 nil it still no points. The management are not going to be so annoyed as we supporters who rightly so find 7 , 5 , 4 or 3 goals against us an embarrassment. Well straight away you've forgotten about the relegated teams of Hull, Sunderland and Middlesbrough, against whom we took 16 points out of a possible 18. So far we've had a 1-2 defeat at Newcastle and a 2-2 draw at Brighton in lieu of those games so we're already several points down there as well.

If you're confident we'll finish mid table you're lying I'd take 17th if it means a new manager next season I see Hughes is now clear second favourite as the next manager to leave his post. Seventeenth would be a good outcome in that survival is guaranteed and there'd be no way he'd keep his job. Just supposing he did turn it around though and Stoke finished in the top ten. What then ? It's a possibility lf a long shot.

It was a stunning change of form to go from 19 points in 19 games and then to finish 8th, still he could never do that again could he?

In answer to the topic question, no I wouldnt
We should be striving to get as high a possible position shouldnt we?
Why set our sights so low?
If we END UP there then So be it
We wont go down this year anyway so the question is a bit silly really
