Absolutely horrendous conditions yesterday for the whole 6+ hours. Congrats to Pedersen for his "surprise" win, but every rider deserves a medal for taking part in that. It was so bad that at one stage there wasn't even any footage from the motorbike cameras, and the helicopters were grounded for quite a lot of the race too.
That must be one of the wettest races I've ever seen. I was going to go and watch it but saw the forecast and decided to stay home instead.

Well in advance of the event, and it'll no doubt get it's own thread nearer the time, but the route for the 2020 Tour de France was announced today. It'll start in Nice a week earlier than usual, on 27th June, and finish on 19th July, to allow riders to get ready for the Olympics not long afterwards. Looking forward to it already ! link

Nico Portal (Ineos' head directeur sportif) has died of a suspected heart attack aged 40. Always seemed like a sound guy, very measured and calm.

Really horrible news about Portal. Always came across as such a nice guy and had already achieved so much as DS at such a young age.

I see the UCI and Grand Tour organisers have announced dates for this year's TdF, Giro, Vuelta, and the Monuments. Although it would be great to have these event later in the year surely at this stage it's being a tad optimistic to say the least. The article in Cycling Weekly sums it up pretty well. link

My bike is broken, so I need another. Hartshill Cycles and Cycle Discount Centre in Longport are closed. Halfords are sold out of everything that's within my budget and half-decent. I can't find any decent second-hand bikes. So I've turned to Argos. Does anyone have experience with the Cross brands? The FXT700 seems decent for £180: www.argos.co.uk/product/8042235I won't be doing any serious off-roading but want a mountain bike, something 18kg or under with disc brakes. That FXT700 doesn't seem to have a quick-release wheel which is annoying. Edit: apparently that bike's unavailable for store collection or home delivery, despite Argos letting me add it to the basket. Some websites are so annoying.

I saw this a few days ago and intended to post it but got side tracked. linkInteresting but not entirely that surprising taking into account Froomey is coming back after injury, his age, and the Team Ineoas plethora of riches as potential leader, Bernal, Thomas, and Carapaz. Moving to Bahrain McLaren would make sense as Rod Ellingworth, Mikel Landa, and Wout Poels are already there. Not sure Landa would welcome being shunted behind Froome in the pecking order though as that was one of the reasons he left Sky. Could Bahrain McLaren really take on Ineos in the TdF particularly in the mountains even with Landa and Poels. Ineos just seem to have so much more in depth quality.

No other team will have the support riders to get froome past Ineos.
