Great to see Chris Froome starting his physio and talking so positively about next year's TdF as his target. He certainly had a lucky escape to come away from his crash with "only" the injuries that he sustained, sounds like it could have been much worse. He's not exactly roughing it though is he judging by the surroundings and views in that video.
He say's he's further ahead in his recovery than the surgeons expected but whether he can get back to full fitness and mobility in time for next year's TdF is one question, the bigger question is whether he would then be able to cope with the "new generation" coming through after such a big accident and especially at his age.
I'd love to see him win a 5th TdF next year, what a story that would make.

It's really awful isn't it - I saw it earlier on Eurosport but didn't want to post it.
Cycling weekly says he crashed into a concrete culvert with no other rider involved. The race doctor said "We tried to give a heart massage just afterwards, then we called for a helicopter but his condition was so serious it wasn't able to transport him."
"So we did more reanimation there where he was and then took him to the hospital by ambulance. More reanimation was done on the way to the hospital, but he died during the operation there in the hospital."
I suppose the only positive thing was that he was doing what he loved.
RIP Bjorg Lambrecht - Just 22 years of age !

Following on from his win in the San Sebastian Classic, 19 year old Remco Evenepoel has just won the European Time Trial in Holland. Granted not all the big hitters were there but he did beat some well established names quite comfortably.
Looks like he's definitely one to watch in the future.
Pavel Sivakov of Team Ineos has just won the Tour Of Poland and it looks like he's in the frame for Ineos at La Vuelta later in the month.

So the Vuelta starts on Saturday with a Team time trial in Torrevieja.
Quite a lot of the big names are not taking part for various reasons and Cycling Weekly reckon the bookies have gone for the following favourites list
Primož Roglič (Slo) Jumbo Visma – 9/4 Miguel Ángel López (Col) Astana – 3/1 Richard Carapaz (Ecu) Movistar – 7/2 Steven Kruijswijk (Ned) Jumbo-Visma – 9/1 Nairo Quintana (Col) Movistar – 16/1 Alejandro Valverde (Esp) Movistar – 18/1 Tao Geoghegan Hart (GBr) Ineos – 22/1 Esteban Chaves (Col) Mitchelton-Scott – 25/1 Rafał Majka (Pol) Bora-Hansgrohe – 27/1 Tadej Pogačar (Slo) UAE Team Emirates – 28/1
It should be quite an interesting race, particularly as Ineos don't have their big hitters taking part.
Tom Dumoulin isn't competing this year following injury but he's left Sunweb early and signed for Jumbo Visma today - they're putting together a cracking team for next year.

That's a bit a let down for me, not even a Yates in there. I'm pleased to hear that Dumoulin is moving, and Jumbo Visma are definately a team that are getting their act together in a big way.

Team Ineos Vuelta line up
Tao Geoghan Hart and Wout Poels - joint leaders Kenny Ellisonde Owain Doull Sebastian Henao Vasily Kyrienka Salvatore Puccio Ian Stannard
I can't really see a GC challenge or any stage wins coming from that line up.

Vuelta starts today.
I see Richard Carapaz has been withdrawn by Movistar - Team manager says "he's leaving us at the end of the year so I'm not bothered about his career from now on, and he's not riding for us till he leaves". Very professional attitude - or dummy being spat out ?
Kenny Ellisonde also withdrawn by Ineos at the last minute after he travelled to the Torrevieja for the start - strange.

I've not really been watching the Vuelta so far but caught the end of today's stage - good win for Sam Bennett - out of contract at the end of the season so wonder where he'll end up.
I watched the highlights from stage 2 and saw Nairo bleedin' Quintana (spits - I really can't stand him !) win and move up to second in the GC just 2 seconds off the lead. Looks like he could be the favourite to win it this year with so many top names not competing.
I really like the Vuelta but if Quintana (spits !) is leading then it might put me off watching it tbh - it might be petty but I really can't do with the bloke.

Valverde wins brutal 7th stage of the Vuelta with gradients of 20%+ on the final climb, just beating Roglic, Lopez and Quintana (spits).
Overall Lopez (Astana) leads by 6 seconds from Roglic, then Valverde at 16 sec, and Quintana (spits) at 27 sec.
Best Team Ineos rider is De La Cruz at 15'17" in 31st place.

Stage 13 of the Vuelta today - crazy final climb with gradients of 24 to 26% over fairly long distances. Slovenian 1-2 today with rising star Pogacar winning just ahead of race leader Primoz Roglic who'd blitzed the time trial on stage 11 to take the leaders jersey.
I've watched a few stages but I just can't get into it the same as the Giro or TdF - maybe it's because most of the top riders are missing but I'm finding it boring this year.
Team Ineos have been completely anonymous with hardly a mention and nobody in the top 10 (or top 20 of the G.C.).

Yeah it's on but the whole thing is just so "lacklustre" this year. Ned Boulting and David Millar are really struggling to try to make it sound even remotely interesting or exciting. Even good old Carlton Kirby on Eurosport has admitted it's been "a bit flat" although he's been his usual excitable self if someone so much as gets a break of about 15 seconds. Very poor overall.

We had three great Grand Tours last year, but this year's Giro and now Vuelta have been none events, and although the Tour delivered some really good moments, it still felt a bit hollow to me.

I'm away on my hols in Kos at the moment but just seen some of the World Championship time trial on a German eurosport channel so couldn't understand the commentators. Looks like it's a bit wet in Yorkshire judging by some of the big crashes and slides due to the standing water.
Hopefully it'll improve for the men's road race on Sunday.

Is there any truth in the rumour that several footballers reported to their clubs with injuries they sustained just by watching this. Hard hard men are cyclists. Great race today. more video here

I switched on early to watch this and was a bit pissed off to find they were not going up Buttertubs and Grinton Moor..which was partly my reason for watching! Then I saw the footage and thought ok, maybe they did make the right choice. I watched one of the cyclists in the rain ride over a large manhole cover (about a metre in diameter?) on a descent into a left hand turn. His wheels slipped from under him and that was him gone. Very difficult to avoid it as he was in the middle of a large group and would not have seen it until too late. It was part of the Harrogate circuit so he would have had to pass this same spot 9x yesterday. I bet he didn't make the same mistake again.
