I want to live in a caring society. Don't we all. The Atlee government was revolutionary and radically changed the uk, not only in terms of the health service and education but also social care. Not only did it do that it also changed culture and the direction of society. " Caring " , looking after our people, protecting the vulnerable became embedded in our psyche, culture and as a responsibility of the state....and was not left to the benevolence of rich individuals.I'm all in favour and such a tumultuous change change in fabric and thought could only have happened following something as seismic as the second world war. We literally rebuilt and transformed the nation. ( that's where the left have let the working class down by not grasping the opportunity of Brexit but that's another story) Unfortunately as society moves on it seems that there is a danger each generation takes for granted what is in fact precious and delicate( the "vote" and Brexit) Each generation needs to scrutinise and protect what is important....in a genuine way. What was promised in 1945 is completely different to what is demanded and possible in 2020. It is not free. We need to ask if and how and at what level we can afford it. But to get to my point....because we see " caring" as such a major function of the state it is easy to absolve responsibility and always see caring as someone else's responsibility, someone else's fault and with the expectation that perfection can be delivered. In the past families and very much local communities were the primary carers of loved ones( of course families still are)....but as a Muslim friend of mine says " you won't see a muslim elderly person in care, we look after them as part of the family" ( or at least very rarely....a different culture). The Welfare state was set out to be a safety net. And unfortunately the whole thing becomes just another political football....by the political class.....I don't think that one of the battles is just left/ right but also politicians, rule makers/ the people Yes ,but the man was mentally ill.The system let him down for whatever reason, but there are far far too many similar cases in recent years. And yes tory cuts have a lot to do with it. I hope and wish that everyone gets the love and care that they need. I wasn't specifically talking about that specific case....but it does show very well how the expectations on the health service, the " other, them are now expected to take responsibility and provide a solution. Perhaps it can't. Mental health wasn't particularly envisaged in 1945. Now it is major. We need to look at the causes not the symptoms

Perhaps just reflecting on humanity But funnily enough we have the NHS and Welfare state in this country....not to be taken for granted

Planet reality, where I don't expect the government to prvide for my every whim. the breakdown of the council is showing you, who has posted about the Tory Government, that it is labour in charge of the council and especially Adult care, as you highlighted an adult that needed help, that's not really rocket science is it? Brilliant, callous comedy gold..Ill share this if ya dont mind. Whatever, but as pointed out, you blame the top of the government which you seem to do regulary from a headline, I show a few facts about the failings in departments who are at ground level and being paid to do the local work and you don't have an answer, apart from the normal mild insults.

Good video here: Metaphorically spare the rod spoil the child A lot of truth in that You have to toughen your kids up. Not by beating them but by rewarding good and punishing bad. Life is tough you have to prepare kids for that. And it’s easy. It starts by getting them to make their bed every morning, putting dishes away etc. Saving for stuff they want not just handing it out on a plate. It’s easy to put blame on the government for lots of things and often they responsible but you have to invest in your kids. Make them do homework make them be the best they can. Life is a lottery at birth that can’t be helped but you can change the cycle That video states parenting as no1 priority and parents have that responsibility over their children.

Resilience is a characteristic everyone needs to cope with the highs and lows that life throws at you. As a parent we should always be looking at helping develop that quality in our children. The sorts of thing that you mention above, but, critically not isolating them from the consequences of their actions or decisions.

Personally, I blame all of this social media internet bollocks for a lot of mental health issues in the younger generations. Good video here: I do agree with some of what he says, but the truth is that we live in the technical revolution & it’s going to change us all for better or worse & already has. If bosses don’t like it tough $#!t, King Cnut stood against the tide & lost. Indeed, it’s business that wanted us to embrace tech, so I doubt they are offended by taking phones into meetings. If he thinks the internet is a problem with kids development & that teenagers need to grow away from parents & towards peers, he must have lived a V privileged & blessed life, cause I would much prefer my kids to be on their devices than getting up to what I was doing at their age. It’s all too simplistic, but that’s what I would expect from a motivational speaker that’s plying his wears...
