I think you summed most of the story up. I think the reason things stayed quiet was that he had the power to say the immortal line, "You'll never work in Hollywood again", and mean it. His behaviour is exactly what we thought was going on in the days of the casting couch, it's more surprising that he's been doing it in this day and age.

I have to admit, I'd never heard of the guy, forgive my ignorance, but none of the accusations surprise me. Here's a guy with uber power, the ability to destroy the careers of young actresses.... and ultimately, a knob.
The rest doesn't require much in the way of mathematics.

I thought it was common knowledge and pretty much just accepted that actresses suck off a few old fat guys on their way through Hollywood.
I’m surprised that people seem shocked and horrified about it.
There’ll be a time when you won’t be able to force yourself on anybody the way these leftie snowflakes are going with their moaning. Political correctness gone mad and all that.

This fella is pretty odious it seems
But the reaction of Hollywood players says a lot about the culture and the other people.
We now have major actresses who said nothing earlier - talking directly to the press about their experiences rather than the authorities. They had power and position and could have spoken up earlier to protect the upcoming or the actress complainants. But no. Yet now, they're all jumping on the publicity bandwagon, frightened to be left out, desperate to get in on the story and elicit some news-lines and sympathy.
Then we've got the Hollywood institutions, not a peep of support for the brave actresses who came forward originally, turning a blind eye for years, but now there's an outcry they are suddenly outraged.
The whole place stinks anyway. My least favourite place of everywhere I've visited in the US.

I read Biskind's "Down and Dirty Pictures" a few years back, both Weinstein's come across as aggressive "old Hollywood" style movie makers in the book and it doesn't surprise me at all that one of them decided to recreate the old casting couch days in the 21st century.
Between Miramax, the Disney buyout and The Weinstein Company they had enormous power within the Hollywood bubble. As the old saying goes power corrupts and absolute power, absolutely corrupts.
Mind you despite his lecherous tendencies Harvey is a mere candle in the darkness compared to say Don Simpson's (High Concept - Charles Fleming) short but crazy Hollywood life.

Same on both sides. Silence? Plenty of people are talking about this! Including many of those that have said positive things about Weinstein in the past. A-holes like Weinstein deserve to have their careers ruined, regardless of political affiliation. You're comment is so out of touch with reality, I really don't know where to begin. Every big story is confirmation that the "left" is out of control. If trump does it it's a smear campaign. If a liberal does it there's a cover up. Ridiculous.

Lysette Anthony now saying she was raped by him, but why does she say it now, was it actually 'rape' or just this is something she thought 'I have to endure to get on in the business' ? She closed her eyes, held her breath and let him get on with it.

He wasn't removed from the board of his company because of sexual harassment. He was removed from the board because sexual harassment was made public. Spot on! People have been talking about Weinstein for years, and not just within any "inner circles"....(awaiting the inevitable quote of that phrase with added pun from someone ). Even i, a humble member of the public knew rumours that he was a dirty scumbag years ago. It certainly hasn't come out of the blue in any way shape or form. People have known what a dirty old man he was for a loooong time...it's simply that none of the victims chose to speak out beforehand and without that nothing can be done as it's simply hearsay.

She closed her eyes, held her breath and let him get on with it. When the Lysette Anthony story broke, I read that she originally went to the police about it. There are at least three cases where the UK Police were involved and the cases were dropped. Seeing that our local police were recently found out for making a sexual assualt case go away in the 80's because the local man was a well respected man, it quite easy to see how these women were brushed aside for someone with Weinstein's power and money. Whilst there may well be some opportunists out there that will jump on the bandwagon, I think we should be careful not to jump to conclusions about the motives of those that are only now speaking out.

I must confess I've not been following this 'story' at all and don't really care that much truth be told, however my attention was caught by this story because of the GoT connection. www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-41650350However, this story reads to me like (I paraphrase a little) "I got in to a lift with him to go to his room to review a script" then, apparently before anything had happened or before he'd done or said anything, she said "I'm only coming to read the script so keep your grubby hands to yourself" and he got annoyed with me. Well, forgive me, but if I was sharing a lift with someone and, completely out of the blue, they said something like that to me, I'd be pretty annoyed about it too. It seems a bit of a non story to me.

Sexual harrassment should not be conflated with sexual assault. Both are bad, but one is far worse than the other.
If these women have not been physically forced into these acts, and have done them voluntarily because they valued the advancement of their career more, then they are victims of nothing other than being put into an unfortunate position.
Let's not fanny around here. If they've been given a choice to suck some bloke off for a job, and they've chosen to do it, then they are prostitutes.

I would imagine, much like many things, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. There will be some who are moaning now, who simply took an opportunity to gobble themselves a new role in a multi million pound film. There will be others, however, who felt powerless or were forced into a compromising situation. There's never black and white, however this guy is an absolute scumhole of the highest order, it's fair to say.
