You might have seen that our former winger John Worsdale has sadly passed away.
John played for us in the 1960s before joining Lincoln City.
He worked as a rep after playing the beautiful game before running his newsagent's business.
John was a warm, friendly bloke who I have known for many years.
He was not in the best of health when I last saw him, but he was still as cheerful as ever.
I'm sure we all offer our sympathies to his wife and daughters and their families.
John was much loved and will be sorely missed.
May he rest in peace.

Remember hearing his name back then, fringe player but not sure of his first team record. Some lads didn't get many games despite small squads, and were players tougher in them days as not out injured much or "rested" like nowadays.

Yes I remember John,I believe that he was part of the very successful Stoke on Trent schoolboys team of the early 1960s.I think he came from the Longton/Fenton area that produced a rich vein of footballers who made the grade at a professional level around this time, Denis Smith, Jackie Marsh, Bill Bentley,John Worsdale and a couple of years earlier Alan Bloor. Condolences to his family and friends RIP John.

Yes. Remember John. RIP. Recall that he made his debut in same match as Denis Smith.

Older Stokies will rememberJohn as a dynamic player in the successful 60's Reserve team in the Central League who captured runners up spot in a talented league, which eventually launched Stoke to higher things with an all STOKIE defence from that Reserve team. Condolences to family and thanks for everlasting memories.

I was a part-time butchers boy at Dewhursts in Hanley and John's mum worked there. She once gave me two stand tickets to watch a midweek game. She was a lovely lady that would have no doubt rubbed off on John. RIP John.

Shocked to hear such sad news. Known John and Ange for a long time going back twenty years or more as we both had Newsagents in Newcastle town centre. Their shop was in Lancaster Buildings Cheapside, between Ironmarket and the High Street. Saw him quite often in the concourse of the West Stand on match days. He and his family were lovely friendly people. Condolences to them all. RIP John.

Johns grandmother and my grandmother were next door neighbors in Fenton. Although older than me we played football together when I was a kid. He was an hero to me and of course when he signed for Stoke it was unbelievable. His coaching did some good as I was on Stokes books for 2/3 seasons but nothing like the footballer that John was. Also a lovely man. RIP John.

'20 B&H, a packet of wine gums and the Spanish version of Fiesta Readers Wives in a brown paper bag please Lionel'!

I grew up in Clarke Street Shelton in the 1950's and the house next door belonged to Stoke City and was occupied by their great winger Harry Oscroft. He used to work on the post and milk during the summer.
