Noticed before that you visit Catalonia. Have you ever been to Sant Felipe de Guixols. Just up from Tossa de Mar. Strangely, Yes. Spent our this years holiday in that general area & visited the town. Did you do the trip to Montserrat?

Did you do the trip to Montserrat? No, but without knowing, we drove past them & looked on in awe. I visited there in the early 80s with a Spanish friend from Barcelona. It was April and there was still some snow in places.
If Gaudi did rock formations

As we saw with the Canadian deal being held up by a local council in Wallonia. The Spain/Gib thing is purely a political lever to be divisive.

Seems Madrid have ramped up the pressure on the Independence leaders. Those being held in prison are now facing Rebellion charges which carry very hefty jail times. Hence protests and violence over the weekend.
Looks like they've just nabbed Carles Puigdemont in Germany.

I cannot see how this can be justified in the modern era, in democratic Europe. Surely the honest and sensible thing to do, if the recent attempt to form a government fails,( or even if it succeeds) would be to hold a referendum. The question would be simple, much like the Scottish independence ref. There is no way that arresting and imprisoning those that think differently on this issue can be justified

Nothing short of disgraceful in modern day Europe, more akin to 1930's Germany.
Simply put its political oppression and governments should call it out for what it is and hold Madrid to account.

The Catalonia situation is asking big questions about democracy, double standards and Police states..... unbelievable in the modern era From 43.15 onwards makes excellent points www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09ws6cyIf I've understood this correctly: The offence under which the freedom fighters are being extradited include s sedition. In Spanish Law this must include acts of violence. Apparently the Spanish government are saying that the actions of the protesters provoked Spanish police violence, so that's covered.

"The Catalan question dominates the front-pages in the EU’s largest member state on Tuesday morning. Germany’s left-wing Die Linke party has called Puigdemont’s arrest a “disgrace”. Andrej Hunko, the party’s European affairs spokesman said: “The criminal case is clearly politically motivated.” In Berlin, Angela Merkel responded with strong political backing for her conservative ally and Spanish prime minister, Mariano Rajoy. “Spain is a democracy where the rule of law exists,” said the chancellor’s spokesman." www.ft.com/content/0c14f968-3171-11e8-b5bf-23cb17fd1498

The whole Catalonia situation is becoming Kafkaesque (SM). If the Spanish government get away with imprisoning any of these Catalonia politicians/ activists , without international condemnation, European leaders in particular have completely lost any claim on theoral and democratic high ground. "The 18-page arrest warrant apparently lists 56 specific instances of alleged criminality, and has 34 additional pages of legal material. Despite the horrific pictures of violence against Catalonian independence supporters during the referendum, the warrant claims Ponsati was partly to blame for violence against the 6000 Spanish police officers who tried to stop the referendum. “Clara wishes for me to state that these charges are politically motivated and a grotesque distortion of the truth. She cannot believe that she’s being held responsible for the violence that took place on the day of the referendum. “She believes that the Catalan people tried to express a democratic right to decide their own destiny and the only people that should be held responsible for the brutal violence was the Spanish police and the 6000 state security forces who attacked the Catalan people on behalf of the Spanish government. www.thenational.scot/news/16123064.Scotland_sends_Spain_a_message_____You_can_t_have_our_Clara_/?ref=twtrec
