Any news on Ryan? I remember reading it was only 1 x week so has it got worse? Hughes said in the Southampton Press Conference he had no idea when he'd back. All worryingly familiar. He looked nonplussed by the impertinence of the question didn't he. That didn't bode well for me, lets hope there is some good news, because we sure as shit need him.

The muscle is now involved apparently. I know from my own back problems when a disc is involved then the muscles spasm in that area.As you say worrying.

In his post-Southampton interview on Radio Stoke, Hughes said he was "days.....maybe a week" away from fitness. But with the training he'd missed, it'd take a while to get him back up to speed.
He said they initially thought there was just a ligament strain, but it transpired there was a muscle strain too.
BMI was said to be "2-3 weeks" away

The mothballs seem to be winning......we need to dig our captain out from under them to see how he's doing.
Ryan has chronic back problems now and will need to be managed very carefully. I would suggest that bringing him back to be given the run around by Jesus and co next weekend would not be the smartest management.
Zouma, Cameron and Wimmer will make up the back three for the next few weeks it seems. Bruno may even be back before Ryan.

I suppose none of us really know, but you would think it has to be a new injury (but possibly connected) otherwise surely we would not have given him the length of contract we did. I'm holding onto this thought and hopefully he will be back soon as good as new.

Really feel for him and literally feel his pain.
Back problems are awful and even the best of the best surgeons will admit they don't know the full ins and outs of our spines and how everything works together, such is the complexity of its anatomy.

Thank god we've got plenty of CBs and have the option of going back to 4231 if pushed. I have a feeling that this back issue will be a constant problem for Ryan for the rest of his career. Great shame.

Another magical one week injury that turns into months.
Nothing to see here obviously.
We deal with injuries just great.

The mystery of 'Ryan's Back' will probably be resolved at about the same time as they discover a cure for the common cold. It's a medical phenomenon!

The next thread about Ryan will be 'Shawcross taken out the back yard with Pa's shotgun'.

The back is highly complex and is more responsible for problems in the human body than any other part. That's because it takes so much strain supporting an animal that was initially designed to 'walk' on all fours. Evolution has adapted it for most changes, but when one part fails it puts so much stress on other parts of the back that it cannot cope in some instances. I think that's what's happening to Ryan. He won't be the only player who has had his career cut short by back problems, just as it happens to people in other sports that take an extraordinary toll on the back. Extended R&R affilliated with treatment is often the only way to help someone in his situation. He's been such a great servant to the club that I'd give him far more leeway than I would normally with a player. IMO, the club are acting just right with his situation.
Fingers and toes crossed that he regains full fitness, but if he doesn't, then make plans to cover for his problems.
OS.

It's a real shame that Ryan is going to be out for this game. It was his unbelievable performance at the Etihad, that really provided a platform for us to win, the one time we actually achieved it.

And if he's not ready for Watford, you've got to worry even more than we have been.
