Not sure what some of you were watching but he was by far the worst player yesterday, constantly went missing when they were on the counter and offered nothing going forward except passing it straight to their players on multiple occasions. Wimmer had to come across and clear up after him on several occasions, but I suppose you couldn't see that on your illegal streams on the sofa.

Typical Erik performance. Good and bad. Always give 100% though.

He is not a natural wing back but he has done okay so far this season. We should be able to get through this season with him and hopefully develop Tymon to be able to replace him in the longer term. There are always certain players who seem to attract more criticism than others, and currently it's Pieters and Allen.

4 in 4 games now. The stick he's had and the groans even today if he had the audacity to misplace a pass is ridiculous for a whole hearted and very capable full back. A whole hearted and very capable full back he is. A wingback, unfortunately, he is not.

Similar to the Arse game, the result sort of masked his performance. Thought he was shocking today yet again and just does not suit this system. Possibly one of the worst wing backs you will see. Everyone moaned we did not address the wing back positions and needed a top notch striker in the window and that was possibly the difference of us winning today. We needed raw pace and power up top and a consistent threat from the wing backs which was not there. Shaq needs an out ball and wing back were rarely forward (goal exception). need pace and power in those positions. Well both wing backs made telling contributions that led to our goals. Links up very well with Choupo, gr at cross for the Jesé shot and keep The right side steady. The best feature of our game yesterday was how well the system worked, both Diouf and Erik are clearly growing into the role and Fletcher, Zouma and Shaqiri were all looking to switch the play. Both goals came from moves involving great crosses from the wing backs and when we defended we did so as a five. Pretty clear to me why we have signed Tymon as longer term option but Hughes clearly happy with Erik and rightly so

He's had a good start to the season but he was poor yesterday.

No one going to mention his positioning for their second goal? Or Joe Allen's loss of the ball out wide, and then shrug of the shoulders? Or Jese's initial, pointless ball to Allen? Or BMI jogging back after Lukaku as he faced Butland one-on-one? We should scapegoat everybody, in the interests of fairness.

If everybody's favourite, Muniesa was played out there, he'd be equally struggling.

Defensively he looked good and our formation mirrored Utds in that Pieters did a lot more defending to keep Valencia under wraps, whilst Darmien also sat back alot more to handle our right hand side.
Going forward Eriks short passing was pretty poor, as normal and to be expected, but he's starting to make a habit out of decent crosses, which if he continues with means we just have to accept the poor passing as the rest of his game will be good enough.
He was a steady 6/10 for me today.

In 4 games. More than any other player in the team 4 isn't enough, on yesterdays game I thought he was poor overall, kept giving the ball away and their second, well, he wasn't great was he.

Can someone enlighten me, I haven't seen the game back yet, but what did Erik do wrong for their second goal?

Can someone enlighten me, I haven't seen the game back yet, but what did Erik do wrong for their second goal? He got himself in an awful position, neither marking his man or Lukaku and about two yards further back than the rest of the defence, resulting in him playing Lukaku onside.

Ok didn't realise it was Erik thought it was Wimmer and I thought he was a yard offside anyway.

Wimmer, Bruno and Zouma had all stepped up, Pieters was ball watching and didn't react, Lukaku was well onside.

Solid today but if we have any ambitions to break into the top 8 it will not be done with him in the team.

Certainly the weak link in the team but did ok today. That would be Joe Allen

They say the folk from Stoke have always got to have something to moan about. I think it's what gets some people out of bed in the morning.

Erik and Mame are doing pretty well in positions that don't really suit their skill sets.
They are the best available options in the squad to fill the WB positions. I f we are going to persist with the current system we need them both to stay fit. We also need to offer them as much support as possible; they are both doing their very best for our football club.
