4 in 4 games now.
The stick he's had and the groans even today if he had the audacity to misplace a pass is ridiculous for a whole hearted and very capable full back.

Similar to the Arse game, the result sort of masked his performance. Thought he was shocking today yet again and just does not suit this system. Possibly one of the worst wing backs you will see. Everyone moaned we did not address the wing back positions and needed a top notch striker in the window and that was possibly the difference of us winning today. We needed raw pace and power up top and a consistent threat from the wing backs which was not there. Shaq needs an out ball and wing back were rarely forward (goal exception). need pace and power in those positions.

An overall weak link for sure, but he has had a better start to the season than he is given credit for. Needs replacing absolutely, but a win against arse and a draw against the shit! That not caring a poor player, that is great teamwork from the entire team.

It's harsh to judge him for not getting forward much when up against the very attack-minded Valencia.
I thought aside from one or two sloppy balls he had a good game.

People on here are mental. Pieters has been superb this season. Sure he gives the ball away a couple of times and he's not the most gifted footballer but he's been superb defensively and some of his crossing this season has been quality.

He was excellent today as was Diouf. But he's a wing back, surely a decent cross a game is the least to expect.

No one going to mention his positioning for their second goal?

Eric gave the ball away too many times for my liking today! Although hes not the best attacking wise he is competent defensively. If we are to keep this wing back role then i would address the left one before the right as it stands.

By misplace a pass, you mean about 60% of his passes going to the opposition, most of which were simple. Also the positioning for their goal. He works hard and when he's not pushing players in the back in silly areas he's a steady defender. Fucking awful going forward though and should have been replaced the window just gone.

I have to say as full back in a back four I don't have a problem with him but in this system he dreadfully exposed.

He's clearly not a wing back but I've seen nothing this season to suggest he should lose his place. Another decent game today.

He was awful today and I'm not just talking about his passing. He was caught out of position so many times that even Martial came over to run at him as it was an easier option. I like the bloke but he is not a wing back and was poor today.

When Erik makes an identical error, the crowd audibly moan their bollocks off. Erik was ace yesterday as were his teammates

The joy is that we're in a place where Erik Pieters is one of the worst players in our side... and he's a fucking fantastic player! Great times to be a Stokie. But yeah, Pieters is the next logical place to look if we want to improve.

He's clearly not a wing back but I've seen nothing this season to suggest he should lose his place. Another decent game today. Wing backs have been out of fashion for so long there are none around, if we are to persist with this formation we need to train them how to be wing backs. I think Pieters and Diouf/Ramadan will do the job just fine given time to settle there.

I like the bloke but he is not a wing back and was poor today. H Yep. They targeted our left flank all day and caught Erik out time and again with simple balls over the top. He will be more than ok against the teams in and around us but we carry him against the big sides. He's just one of those players that won't make the step up. It's harsh criticism on weekends like this where we've got a good result but fair in equal measure I think.

Great attitude and capable player doing a job in a position he's never played before. I like him. Be interesting to see how Tymon would do as he's a more natural wingback.

I agree Erik was no worse than anyone else yesterday.

Apart from the cross to Jese I think he misplaced most of his passes, and he was also at fault for United's second goal as he lost his concentration and made sure Lukaku was onside! He is the weakest link in our defence in my opinion, but still he isn't a bad player.

Not the greatest wingback, but obviously MH values the defensive side of the game more than anything else. Kept Valencia reasonably quiet, thought he did a decent job.
