One evening in October 1975 me, my brother and a couple of mates were at a loose end when I suggested "anybody fancy going to Derby?". The County were playing Real Madrid in the second round of the European Cup at the old Baseball Ground. Everybody agreed so we all piled into my car and headed for Derby. After a mad dash, well above 70mph most of the time, we got there just before kick off, parked up and simply paid on the gate to get in! Derby won 4-1 in front of a crowd of about 35,000 - superb atmosphere. Charlie George scored a cracker early in the game and netted two penalties to get a hat trick. David Nish netted from a long range attempt that squirmed under the Madrid keeper. Madrid got one back from a well worked effort finished off by Pirri. In the away leg Derby got put out when they lost 5-1. Come to think of it - when we got there we rushed round to the ground and I asked a copper which turnstiles were for cash entry. He told me that it was an all ticket affair and then proceeded to pull a wad of tickets from his pocket and asked me how many I wanted. We got 4 at face value!

Rio about five years ago, sat in the sun at a pleasant little pavement cafe having a sandwich when my curiosity was piqued by a passing car full of rambunctious Flamengo fans.. quick bit of googling and a chat with the waiter and we were in a cab on the way to Flamengo vs Botafogo. Seedorf was playing for Botafogo. I got some cash nicked from my pocket outside the ground, but oh well.

Ferencvaros v Ujpest FC a few years back when I went to Budapest. Think it was 3-0 to the hosts, proper nasty atmosphere but we were in the "posh" seats and away from all the bedlam, can't remember exactly the ticket price but it was around the Β£5 mark......

One of my very earliest memories this, from the mid sixties. Me mum took me with her shopping, and Stoke was full of people going the match. I was really excited, and I nagged her so much to go, she ended up sat in the Campbell Rd stand with me! And had to explain to my dad when we got home why she'd been so long but didn't have any shopping. Stoke 2 Wolves 2 ... we were 2-0 down but two goals in last two minutes including a John Ritchie header. Blimmin eck. Just googled this, 07 Nov 1964 (I was 4), and we lost 2-0!! Must've had two close ones at the end and my mum's fooled me! The only action I remember was a thunderous John Ritchie header at the end (permanently vividly etched into my memory in full technicolour) that my mum said was a goal. Hmmm, funny I don't remember any celebrations, .... MUUUUM!!!! .. I am now smiling and slowly shaking my head

Arbroath v Ayr I was reminded how footy fans are internationally witty, when Ayr fans sang "You can stick your fu##ing Smokies up your arse."

On holiday with my parents approx 1974 my dad took me to watch Plymouth v Sunderland whilst my mum went shopping, Plymouth won 1 nil and a young Paul Mariner got the goal, he went on to become the England centre forward a year or 2 later.
Barnsley v Enfield in 4th/5th round of fa cup finished 1 each, me and some mates decided go watch Enfield after they had dicked the fail in previous round.

I've got a fair few . One was Brentford v Barnsley in May '93. We had just beaten Plymouth 1-0 in midweek to get promoted but had no game on the Saturday - so we decided to have a celebration visit to London to vist friends living down there. We noticed that Brentford were at home to Barnsley and Biggins , who had left us early on that season for the mighty Barnsley, would be playing . Also as many know the beer on offer around the ground is second to none ! We were pleased when Brentford went on to win the game ( 3 - 1 I think with Biggins doing little ! )

I was on works holiday in Crete about 20 years ago and the rest of the group went on a trip that I couldn't be arsed with so the rep who was attached to us said he was going to watch the local side (Agios Nikolaos) in a Greek 2nd div league game. Eye opener to say the least!! Only 2/3 of one side were available to watch as the pitch was 8ft chain fenced off and by the end I could see why as the amount of bottles thrown on the pitch was incredible and I learned my only Greek word that day, malaka, which I was told meant wanker but have been told since it means no common sense

One we went to was a Walsall home match, can't remember who it was, t was in the 80's, we'd all set off to Grimsby in the back of a luton van with a couple of settee's for 'comfort' (no heating), after a while the back doors opened and were told our game was off for snow or frozen pitch, so we all went down to Walsall to watch their game.

On our way to a Stoke away game travelling from Portsmouth, think it was Leicester, got to near Reading and found out the game had been called off due to too much rain so we went and watched Reading v Chesterfield, sat with the Chesterfield fans, some of whom thought it would be fun to start filling each other in, more entertaining than the match to be fair. Would that have been late 80's by any chance? If so, a few of us, including one or two notables, went up to Manchester, met up with Villa and headed to Maine Road. Not the best idea, by the end of it said notables had us in in a little bother with both Villa and Man City fans. Sheffield Wednesday v Chelsea - Sunday lunchtime decision to head over the Peak District West Brom v Chelsea (Chelsea promotion party) from Div 2 Rangers v Dundee United - went up there to sell a load of tickets that a friend had got lumbered with when Stoke Rangers Supporters Club left him high and dry. Weird thing was, Notables mentioned earlier with in with Dundee United fans and Delilah was being belted out. Berwick Rangers v fuck knows who in about 1979 Canada v St Kitts & Nevis

Back in the early 80s naughty days ,i remember going on a Glebe coach to Luton. On the way back we stopped off to see Wallsall v Plymouth who were playing a saturday evening game and went with away fans on the open end . To say they werent pleased to see us was a understatement.

Saw Motherwell vs Hamilton Accies circa 1983-ish. Happened to be in Madrid over Christmas about 1986/7 and got to see Real vs Barca. When living in London about the same era seem to recall seeing Crewe lose at QPR 8-1. Early 2000's was in Holland with work, and at 30 minutes notice was taken to see Ajax play Maastricht, I think it was. Anyway, it ended up 6-0. This year, happened upon Vancouver Whitecaps vs LA Galaxy. My favourite, though, was Japan vs Australia at the 2006 World Cup.
