Crouch was our topscorer last season. He is even our top scorer this season with 2 goals in 2 appearences. The very last thing we should is swapping him for someone we dont know will fit in.
I'm pretty sure Hughes has a list with at least ten strikers on it. He's made an approach for each. The players are holding out to see if a better offer doesnt happen and will not decide until Aug 31, round about 23:00.
That's how he got hold of Bony last year. The other nine turned him down and in desperation he okay'ed Bony.
Time will tell if he has a trump in his sleeve or if we sign somebody we've never even heard of.

I don't think there are that many out there, certainly not successful ones anyway. Lukaku seems to be the only one of his kind in the league. I'd continue with trying to play more of a passing game and looking for more of a goal contribution from the midfield. If we really want a focal point then play Crouch alongside Berahino in a 4-4-2 or diamond. I like the wing back approach though, we look far better at the back and playing on the counter suits us. They don't need to be has prolific as lukaku to be a berahino upgrade. Anyone quick and at it for ninety minutes would be a berahino upgrade even if they only got the odd goal here and there. And playing on the counter would suit us a lot more with someone quick up top.

I think diouf would be good He's not a great finisher. Though obviously he's like alan shearer compared to berahino Apart from that he is difficult to keep a lid on, he's fast, never gives up, puts defenders on the back foot and makes loads of space for his team mates. To be fair, you're knocking Berahino's finishing but he's barely had a chance when he's played. It's not like he's missed any sitters, he just hasn't had any service and we've created next to no chances for him.

You can't bury the chances if you are not using your physicality, determination, pace and footballing nouse to get yourself into the right place at the right time

If we can't bring in a striker that will strengthen us considerably I would keep playing Crouch. When he came in against Everton the game changed and again the same happened today. I like Choupo-Moting good technically but he's not the man to lead the line. Crouches great but we need a more mobile striker. For me I'd like Jannsen but think he'll be unlikely as Spurs have no cover. As a short term option we could do worse than Long or Deeney as though not prolific they lead the line really well. I really like Long, but we mustn't pay much due to his age. One season stop gap?

Strikers like Shearer come along once in a blue moon and the money somebody like him would fetch in today's market would be fucking astronomical. Is ridiculous to be benchmarking our strikers against somebody of Shearer's calibre. A striker like Berahino needs service, and so far, has really hasn't gotten it.

It's either Janssen or Benteke. Spurs have been chasing a European striker all summer.

When Crouch plays we become totally one-dimensional. Yeah. We keep scoring Look I'm no Crouch hater and his goals are absolutely critical. But that doesn't mean that there isn't someone out there who can do a much more mobile pacey job and improve the team collectively. Plan B for another season..ok ...but not the future.

I like Rondon. Think he'd score a lot more for us than he has for West Brom. He did more today on his own than our 3 starting forward players added together.

Thought Maxim was excellent today, especially in the first half. Class with the ball at his feet, strong and brought others into play well. Against 11 men behind the ball too.

He's a London boy and his missus works there. He said in the close season on a tv interview that he sees a future hopefully in the media. I know he's got a mega pad in Cheshire but just think it's a natural move. Just my opinion. Notice he's doing the Grenfell benefit match at QPR next week.

I suggested (My team) Crouch to start today, because he is our best option after selling Joselu.

Hughes seems to like the false 9 idea: for a while it looked like bojan could fill this role.
I am not sure Choupo is at his best in the middle and Berahino seems to fogotten how to score.
I think Diouf is our most effective striker (as a starter with Crouch to change the game when needed) however, Hughes has lost faith with Diouf and Berahino up front (like he did with Joselu); if we have £15M spare I would put it towards a top class striker rather than a CB.

You must have a similar set of eyes as Hughes. For me Maxim is a good player, but only when played out wide on either left or right. Up top he couldn't shield the ball well enough with his back to goal, its a different skillset and so far for me he hasn't got it.

Countless times he won the ball in the air and brought players into play today. If you can do it, you can do it on the left, right or in the middle of the pitch. Maxim is a class act.
