The problem with Stafford Rangers they never had the backing of the board all them years ago. Back in the 70's maybe early 80's the were one of the top non league sides in the country.
Over the years they stagnated whilst other teams such as Burton moved forward. They always had chances to be invested by local businessmen. The board always declined, I would be surprised to see them in the non leagues top division again?

They were ok in the 70/80's.
Managed by Roy Chapman, the father of Lea ( I think?).

Top of Northern Premier League after 4 matches - can they become a force again ? They won the first 2 games and got hammered by Buxton at home before winning midweek. They are a serious yoyo club getting relegated 3 times in 4 seasons but looks like they are working there way up the pyramid again. Was speaking to a mate who's a big fan and he said they were knackered in the conference league due to insufficient seats at the ground so they hired some golf style meccano seating and nearly bankrupted the club. Thinks he's optimistic of conference north via the playoffs. Good luck to em.

I think it's where Stafford Town play their games now?

I'm not slating Stoke for having partnerships with Orlando City or FC St Pauli.
Maybe a partnership with Stafford Rangers could of been considered?

When were they a force? Not being funny either. I've always known them in the tier they're in now. They were a non-League force in the 70s and under current structures would have undoubtedly made it into the Football League and from there who knows? They also enjoyed some success around 2005 but went into admin a few years back and are now working their way back up I saw them in the Evo-Stik a couple of years back and they were way too good for that League. how far they can go will depend on the structures they have got in pace but they have a decent fan base for that level.

Main issue is home support as many Staffordians prefer Wolves(huck-spit), West Brazil, a few Stokies and the rest glory hunters in Manure colours 😬

Stan Collymore probably their biggest name although they have had players such as Tony Brown ( ex Albion) and Trevor Dance ( ex Vale) on their list. FA trophy winners in 78' I think and a great FA cup run that even saw them play against Peterborough United at the Victoria ground in the 3rd round. Hopefully they can do a Burton Albion and one day climb the football league.

I remember Stafford playing the Vale in the FA Cup, brought an impressive following to Vale Park and only lost 1-0. I remember also, Mick Mills getting loads of stick at a meet the manager do because we wouldn't sign Chris Camden from Stafford Rangers.

I remember the Peterborough game at the Vic it was in the 4th round in front of 31,000, we had been knocked out at Liverpool in the 3rd Round. The cup has been so devalued that we wouldn't get a crowd anywhere near that against virtually anyone for a 4th round game.

I remember as a kid going to a friendly at their ground and I got a few autographs of the players after the game. I was well chuffed. Foxy, steve bould and Georgie berry I think. Used to go a few non league games back then but I lived nearer Kidderminster and telford so it was those two. Hope Stafford rangers get back up there again some day.

Lived in Coton Fields Stafford from 81-86. My shift finished at 2.30 pm on a Saturday quite often. Not enough time to get to Stoke if they were at home (although my record was 11 mins one night Stoke to Stafford in green mini 1275GT) Anyway quite often used to go see Stafford Rangers. Got some found memories of them.

They were once the biggest club outside the football league. When? Why? How? What went wrong? Late 70's/early-mid eighties. They got superb crowds at the time, produced some excellent players and were generally an excellent non league club. I'm not quite old enough to remember what went wrong but suspect it was something to do with finances...or a lack of them.

They were once the biggest club outside the football league. When? Why? How? What went wrong? Early to mid 70's Bayern. Jim Arnold (goalie) went to Everton, Mick Cullerton , Terry Bailey and Ray Williams went to the vale and had good( if you can say that about Vale) careers. I think they won the FA Trophy twice in 3 years and the Northern Premier League (as it was then) in the same year, effectively doing the non- league double.
