Even if you don't think you will watch you probably won't be able to avoid it once the hype ramps up. I'm going along in person tonight. 7:20pm Laura Muir goes in the 1500 metres heat. For those of you who only watch women's sport for your own personal sexual gratification she is nothing special to look at but she is a medal contender. Anyway there will be lots of other girls running round with her in tiny pants so what not to like? 8:20pm Usain goes in 100 metres qualifying 9:20 Mo Farrah goes in the 10k final Other highlights? Hopefully Denise Lewis will be crammed in to one of her pencil skirts in the studio

Brilliant run by Mo.
The atmosphere is great at the athletics as the noise goes round like the awful Mexican wave when Mo runs their.
Some good performances by team GB. Wish he had left the family in the crowd.

On a different subject it was a decent reception for the upgraded medallists from previous world championships before the start.

I must admit I was very uncomfortable with the booing of Gatlin, it was really unpleasant and a couple of loud mouths shouted abuse at him during the silence when they went down on the blocks which all the athletes would have heard on the starting blocks, it felt really ugly like someone shouting out during a minutes silence. As Michael Johnson pointed out this morning it isn't Gatlin's fault that the rules let him back in after 2 years, and once he is there he is there for me. And perhaps more importantly he was far from the only person in the stadium last night coming back from a drugs ban so why pick on him? I think it is because the media have built up the whole Usain/Gatlin thing, the good guy and the pantomime villain. I always take the view no one is all good or all bad.

I'm afraid I was booing from the sofa. Did he not have two misdemeanours? Another one depriving honest athletes out of medals, places, finals, sponsorship and income I'm afraid. Had Michael Johnson suffered during his career from these people he might have a different viewpoint.

I just felt it spoiled the enjoyment of the race for both the competitors and those in the stadium. You might of course say Gatlin has played his own small part in spoiling the sport, and he has, but I just didn't feel it was the time or the place. And once again there were 10's of competitors in the stadium last night back from drugs bans so why just Gatlin? Do we boo after 2 offences and not one? And what then about people like Christine Ohuruogu, our most decorated female athlete, never failed a test but banned for missing 3 tests. Boo or not boo? Heroine of villainess? Oh well, one thing for certain Gatlin will be booed again tonight and it won't be pretty.

Unfortunately for him he is the most high profile athlete after his two bans which he reckons were unlucky mistakes although he accepts using products containing amphetamines and testosterone. He is now racing at the highest level against the backdrop of Russian doping bans so I would imagine crowds are less forgiving at the moment.
I don't celebrate any of Christine Ohurugus' achievements either because unfortunately there is that doubt. The booing was commented on by the BBC presenters last night but they're all ex athletes so there wasn't a huge amount of sympathy. Jessica Ennis-Hill said last night that banned athletes are in denial and she believes that it's because they believe that everyone else is doing it. She's another one getting a medal upgrade this evening.
On a lighter note a week last Wednesday at Cannock Chase in the Staffs Knot 5 there was the mother of all finishes just behind me between two forty something ladies representing Trentham and Stone. Nought point one of a second in the photo finish and all for one league point an completely drug free

Second line down with a mile to go. I could hear the effort going on behind me at the finish and the crowd were really giving it some. I reckon the Staffs Knot is the most unforgiving finish on the circuit if your chasing someone down or being chased down due to it being flat and the best part of 500/600 metres.
Second line down on this group of photos with a mile to go. Absolute credit of a race to both of them.

😁😁 I wouldn't stand a chance if you had 2 functioning legs. Yeah it looks like you're coming to the end, but keeps on going. I forgot my watch that day so didn't know how far left. Looks like NSRRA created some good natured rivalry, I'll be in it next season. Late fitness test for me for Trentham 10k, pulled my giraffe neck.

Usain in the 100m final.
But honestly he looks about as far from his 9:58 glory days as it is humanly possible to be.
Why don't they come clean in the studio and say so? He is no longer an irrepressible force of nature that's for sure.
It looks to me like he is running from memory, will it be enough in the final, who knows...

To say Gatlin has two offenses is to be ignorant of what really happened the first time.
The second time was totally his fault but the first time he was innocent. Due to a corrupt deal, he was made a sacrificial lamb. It's never been made public of course but I have a very reliable inside source.
Send me a private message if you're interested as I can't say it on a public forum.

Wish he had left the family in the crowd. I was in the stadium when he won Olympic gold in the 10,000m - I've never heard a roar as loud at any sporting event. It's a shame that now I think there are huge question marks over Farah's performance, and his colabaration with Salazar.

It's a shame that now I think there are huge question marks over Farah's performance, and his colabaration with Salazar. As there should be. Those inside the track and field community have a very skeptical opinion of Salazar. He turns previously clean athletes dirty, and it would be miraculous if Farah wasn't put under the same regimen. There is also Farah's relationship with an Ethiopian coach that ran a doping program and the fact that he missed two drug tests. Farah has been protected by Sebastian Coe and UK Athletics to a staggering degree.
