"Two big chunks of the club’s soul, gone." wrong " Peter Crouch is still around to make Saido Berahino feel like a waster", wrong, "Marko Arnautovic, the most reliable of the flair players", wrong, How are the Walters/Whelan and Arnie bits wrong? Would you want walters/whelan to be here until their 40's ? They were a part of the clubs grit, 3 or 4 seasons ago. Arnie most reliable ? Nah

Nah It didn't say anything about them being here until their 40s, merely pointed out that they were two huge characters in the club. I wouldn't necessarily have kept them but character-wise they'll be hard to replace. That's all the article was saying. Is that wrong? It said Arnie was the most reliable of our flair players? If he isn't, who is?

What's wrong with it? There's some crap in there (mainly about the Pulis era) but a hell of a lot of home truths as well. The most telling line of course is ' Chances are that if the club doesn’t get busy in the transfer market, almost the only thing we will recognise about them next season will be another diabolical start to the campaign'.
We can argue about whether we get the best prices for our players and whether the Arnie deal offers any value and we can argue about the merits of Cartwright, Scholes and their recruitment baby but the truth is it's business time. If they fuck this one up we will be royally fucked, if they are any fucking good it's about time they put the whole question beyond all doubt and proved it. No excuses, no davesviews, weasley get outs that 'you can't make players sign', no 'apples dropping'. It's now or never. "Two big chunks of the club’s soul, gone." wrong " Peter Crouch is still around to make Saido Berahino feel like a waster", wrong, "Marko Arnautovic, the most reliable of the flair players", wrong, 'Two big chunks of the soul gone'? The author admits that it might have been the right time for them to have gone. I disagree. It was definitely time for them both to go but are you suggesting that with 16 years service between them, almost as ever presents that it won't lead to some genuine change on and more importantly off the field dynamics? "Peter Crouch is still around to make Saido Berahino feel like a waster" . Agreed, needlessly inflammatory language but the point is entirely sound. It was the right decision to bring him back, In fact it was essential. "Marko Arnautovic, the most reliable of the flair players" 100% correct.

Shaq hasn't been consistent since we signed him, fit or not, and if he can't stay fit he isn't the most reliable is he? We haven't seen enough of Ramadan to know one way or the other. Arnie, meanwhile, contributed directly to a quarter of our goals last season and he and Walters have scored a quarter of our goals since Hughes came to the club.

So you have to keep players for their character ? They were both here last season when we were getting dicked, you can't live on memories, the club has to move on. Fletcher will provide the 'soul', don't worry. And shock horror, a forward and an attacking mid contribute towards a 1/4 of our goals....

The only comment was that their character will be tough to replace. Fletcher is a start I agree in that regard. Scoff all you want, but why haven't our other 'forwards and attackers' done that?

As stated previously this poor start to the Window snowballs , prices go up , as people sense desperation ,others sense we are definitely favourite for the dreaded three , players look elsewhere we are currently in a horrible horrible hole entirely of our own making , and it's going to take some spectacular fireworks to climb out of , fireworks I have serious doubt about either our inclination or ability to set off . If prices went up when people sensed desperation you'd end up paying £32 for a £2 cup of coffee..... Depends if you have milk in your coffee or not with rise in dairy prices at the moment. I was told by a supplier at work they are working very hard to ensure we even have butter at Christmas this year! I mean what's it coming to, we're worried about a poorly written Guardian article, when in the real world, we could be facing a butter shortage! Now that's worth wetting knickers over.

Whichever way you slice it, divorce yourself from anger at his behaviour, Arnie is/was our most reliable flair player.

Talking about apples dropping. If you want them in their prime, you need to give the tree a good shake, or at least go out of your way to pick them. Otherwise, you can wait until they are rotting and fall off the tree, then you can have them for free, because nobody else wants them. This a useful analogy for transfer deals.

Oh Lethal Keith, not been your finest day on here has it old son. The fiver is the name of the daily Guardian sports round up email that you can sign up to and have a guess what time they send it to you? As for number 2... errr so you do agree with the author that Pulis's sides never caved in and Hughes's did? I thought that was the bolocks part myself. OK mate you're entitled to your half baked opinions I suppose. Dolt.

Assuming Zouma is announced today that will move us up the table I imagine. For likely net spend so far of minus £20 million we have already improved our defence and midfield, reduced our wage bill and have plenty of time and scope under FFP to add more players. Stay capm

for those who can't tell the difference between news and opinion/commnent, the fiver is a pisstaking daily e-mail. the letters section usually has at least one corker a week from a fan who's taken what they've said about their club that day far too seriously. it's usually a liverpool or old firm idiot.
still, never a truer word spoken in jest and all that...

It didn't say we were just one win away from 8th position, so not that far off. There is a transition taking place though, out with the old guard, in with the new, an important season for Hughes, but every team transitions and every season is important. All we can do is get behind the team and help them through it.
