Just about to finally open box set of seasons 1 - 5 , is it any good, or a load of over hyped old bollocks... Started Boardwalk Empire, half way thru Season 1 Ep 1 and turned it off...Not for me...So G o T beckons.

Tbh, when my Mrs first told me about it, probably half-way through season one, I thought that it sounded like the least likely thing I'd ever bother to watch.
After watching the first 3 episodes, however - I was hooked. I'd recommend it to anyone.
Great storylines, stunning visuals, loads of <ahem> action 😉, plot twists, characters you'll either love or hate.
And as it progresses, it gets better and better.

Very true Northy. Just started watching from the start and you`d be surprised how much of the little intricacies you miss.

Spoilers!
I watched it when it was leak and I've thought about it a lot. I buzzed off it at first but have changed my mind a little bit.
1. Why did they need to capture a wight? All they needed to do was find or make a fresh corpse within even Castle Black itself and waited, then it would have turned into a wight by itself.
2. This teleportation thing is pissing me off now. It was acceptable once when Varys turned up in Dorne last season. I even let off the Unsullied rocking up on the other side of the continent at Casterley Rock. Even Jaime and the Lannisters going from Casterley Rock to High Garden to to King's Landing in the blink of an eye. But for Gendry to run however many hundred miles back to Castle Black, a raven to be sent 1000 miles to Dragonstone, Danaerys to formulate her plan, then mount a dragon and fly 1000 miles back to the wall, search for them and find them in what, about 10 hours? Bloody hell. I know they have to cut out a lot of travelling but part of what made the early seasons so good was that it had that sense of realism within the fantasy. It took Robb Stark almost a full season to get the Starks down to meet the Lannisters.
3. Why aren't they wearing hats beyond the wall?
Apart from that! Arya is freaking me out now. Does she have a plan or has she become consumed in her own arrogance? She's always seen everything in black and white, so is she just going to start bumping people off? It's unsatisfying to see her being played as Littlefinger's pawn after all she's been through, but that fould be a masterstroke in itself... a deliberately underwhelming demise for a character who has accidentally descended into evil.
I still enjoyed it, watched it twice and will probably bang it on again, and that's the important thing.

Also who swam to put the chain on the dragon underwater? I think they've moved quite quickly through this season and whilst they've finished off certain characters and story arcs this last episode felt very rushed.

I can't see anyone winning the throne. My theory is everyone is wiped out by either the night king and his army or the lord of light. Literally, the world just obliterated.

It's changed a lot since the earlier seasons, that were brilliant because anything could happen, you never felt safe that main characters weren't going to die. Now main characters are invincible, it's lost a lot of what made it good.
And as has been pointed out, the map has shrunk about 50 times over, journeys that would take 3 episodes in the 2nd series and be alluded to as taking months/years are happening in a brisk jog during the few hours it'd take ice to freeze.
Every episode this series me and the missus have turned to each other to take the piss out of massive plot holes. It's nearly getting as stupid and inconsistent as The Walking Dead.

I, sorry a friend of mine purchased a Mag 254 with a lot of the channels, films, sports etc including all 3pm games etc & Video on Demand etc, a month ago.
I had never watched Game on Thrones until 3 weeks ago, but I am now up to date from season one to season seven...very addictive. however in the meantime, I also managed to watch the Billionaire series & I'm now on to the Sopranos..season 1 episode 7.
I don't waste may nights, but god knows what is happening in Corrie & Eastenders.

The Sopranos is amazing, second best show ever after GoT (and just ahead of Buffy and Star Trek TNG, in case you were wondering).

An interesting theory is that Bran is the Night King. He warged into that youth tied to the tree to try and reason with the Children of the Forest before she pushed that dragon glass into his chest to create the original white walker, but she ignores him, and he doesn't get out in time and becomes trapped.
Makes sense, it explains why the Night King can touch Bran. It also explains why the wights besieged the seven rather than fucking them up straight away; because the Night King would have the same three-eyed raven abilities as Bran, and would know that Daenerys would be rocking up with her dragons and he'd be able to snag himself one.
It also explains why they'd have those big fuck off chains with them!

Agreed re: deterioration of the writing of the last few seasons, but they know you simply have to keep watching after coming so far and investing so much time into it i suppose. Almost feel cheated and taken for granted as a viewer. But when you talk about the best thing ever on TV, nothing comes close for me (the original 2 seasons i'm talking about).........

Spoilers
A very satisfying season finale. Glad to see Littlefinger meet his demise like that, and grovelling for mercy too, but it would have been even better to see him hanged a few days layer, as he didn't really have any time to reflect on his crimes and punishment, it was over a bit quickly for him.
A bit expositional with Bran / Sam but I'll let them off for that as the rest of the episode was well paced. Was a bit icky with the incest but it's what we all wanted.
Cersei man, what a bitch.

!!!!!SPOILERS!!!!!
I thought that was one of the best episodes they've ever made. The only thing that let it down was Cersei not ordering The Mountain to kill Jamie. I love Jamie but, as has been pointed out, the unpredictability that made the show so special has dramatically waned in recent seasons, with big characters suddenly finding themselves invincible in the most turbulent of times. They could've put to bed all that criticism with the most unpredictable scenario of all, Cersei ordering the execution of her twin brother, the father to her unborn child and the love of her life. Additionally, it would've demonstrated her absolute ruthlessness and aided the audience feelings of disdain towards her.
