Subbuteo what a game that was. Remember getting World Cup edition when I was 10. Ended up with around 10 teams Brazil, England, Scotland, Hibs, Stoke and West Ham (The one with the V). Best Xmas pressie that and Freddie Truemajs test match. I have my father's version of Subbuteo - it was called New Footy. In the original box and all in good condition. Anyone used to play Blow Football? Bloody spit everywhere! I remember playing blow football with my asthmatic cousin. 9-0, great result! (Harry Hill),

Going back to the old Stoke End days there was a tiny shop near the ticket office which had little stock apart from the odd pennant and silk scarf. Most sports shops in the city sold red and white striped football shirts, it was just a matter of sewing the Stoke badge on it if you required it. Shorts and socks were plain white, again readily available in any shop. Got my first 1972 Stoke kit from Longton, in a shop that also sold Cub Scout gear. Scarves were just red and white bars unless you bought a printed silk one. Later on the old terraced house near the Boothen started selling stuff, programmes and badges etc and there was also a shed the behind the Boothen, where you crossed the river, which sold old programmes etc. When the new Stoke end was built they encorporated a shop, Stokes first proper club shop which sold all sorts of tat, including several thousand pink panthers. I think the ticketing dept moved into there too. The terraced shop remained for a while, still selling collectable programmes etc, the shed outside the Boothen vanished and a small kiosk in the Boothen concourse appeared, selling mainly badges ( many of which were stolen at half time as the drunken crowd swamped the area !). After a while, the terraced shop closed ( I think the club sold the property and at one time club apprentices kipped upstairs ) leaving the only official club shop under the Stoke End. Bourne Sports still sold Stoke shirts and scarves etc until the club moved to its new home and fully furnished Stoke City store, which then opened satellite stores in Hanley and Newcastle before promptly closing them and keeping just the one at the stadium. The shop in the Potteries Centre was open last weekend, unless I've massively missed the point here? My mistake then mate, I live out of the area now. I know it was in the potteries centre, then moved out. I guess it's back in then. Cheers for the info.

Yeah, you mean this double terrace at the end of Lime St.? And yes, I did just walk down and take the photo - I'm bored. If that photo is taken from the site of the social club then yeah, that's the one... you must be really bored !!

Just before I emigrated to Oz I went into the terrace shop and bought a 'sample' shirt. It was a white rugby shirt, red collar with a small kiln and SC underneath. It also has a eye catcha merchandise on the right side. 32 years later I have still got it and it comes out every winter. When I bought it I remember speaking briefly to our reserve keeper in the street outside who was on his way to training. I think his name was Scott Harrison who had just joined from wolves.

RE Biily Moulds shop.
I seem to recall it opposite what is now Newcastle bus station. It must have been where Wilko's is now. Just a small shop with boxes piled everywhere, and of course getting a Stoke strip from Billy Moulds was the icing on the cake.
Sadly in this new generation of footballers, we will probably not see current players retiring to the area and running shops, pubs restaurants etc.
Some that instantly come to mind...Jackie Mudie fruit and Veg shop In Hartshill, Eric Skeels running Noahs Ark, Geoff Hurst Sheet Anchor, Harry Burrows. Dad said Denis Herod had a market stall.
I'm sure other readers will add to this.

Does anyone remember Waddingtons table soccer, with the tiddly wink footballers. I still have mine complete from 1965, apart from a few broken legs, which I used to fix with a match, this gave me shorter players (made good full-backs).

Remember that little shop you've highlighted as being the promotions dept for abit but it was also the place to go to purchase old programmes and badges etc.
The old terraced club shop opposite the main players entrance was always a treat to wander in to on a match day if you could squeeze in!. That Pink Panther era was quality looking back. Do remember Paul Gerkin being the shop manager. They used to sell videos of every home league game too, remember buying one v Brighton for the game I was mascot for in 1989! Also remember that shop selling half and half Woolly hats of Stoke & Glasgow Rangers but never did see what link we had with them although do prefer Rangers to Celtic! Sure in them days replica shirts were only sold in kids sizes too as wasn't the norm to see grown adults in footy tops back then! That's why the older shirts are worth more these days coz they weren't so mass produced as they are now.
Them pictures are great to look at as loved our old home. Was anyone else in the Peter Beagrie fan club and do the school holiday training clubs with him and Kamara? Remember walking through the main entrance down towards the pitch and you'd either walk around the pitch and under the disused corner to get out onto the outdoor training pitches or down towards the Boothen End where you'd go up some stairs to the indoor gymnasium area situated behind where the players wives would sit for the games to play/train indoors. Awesome memories.

Awesome memories. I used to love the Peter Beagrie fan club holiday sessions, ************** Carr and George used to help out too. Got loads of pics of those times somewhere. I'll try and root them out. There's a big group photo that's really good. I bet you might be on it

I used to go in club shop (corner house) near Boothen end every home game I used to collect programs, so was always buying them all matches not just Stoke, but I also had a alternative motive for going in there the bird behind the counter was fit, I spent loads of time each week chatting her up, I think her parents ran the shop, anyway I remember arranging a night out with her and her mates and a group the lads I knocked about with at the time, she pissed off with my mate bitch lol, they lasted a couple of years not seen either for a generation.

FUCKING LOVED THAT GAME.....so much better than Subbuteo. Teams came as white shirts, blue shorts, white socks and white, red, white the other. Saddo that I was as a kid, I repainted one set as Liverpool and (with a brush with about two hairs in it!) the other with red stripes!
