Last season was poor by our recent standards and we'd have come 8th if we hadn't have tried so hard to integrate Berahino. Hope Hughes looks after the club rather than Berahino/himself this coming season.

I couldn't agree more with the OP. I stop coming on here sometimes because all read is moaning and everything is negative. I have been supporting stoke for 40 years. And things are better now than ever in my memory. when all my school mates were talking about matches against Liverpool and Arsenal I was looking at fixtures against Gillingham and Bury......We are in the premier league and it's going to be fun again...even if we lose matches..yes that does happen in football. we will come good. Stick with Hughes, managers improve teams over time. can't wait for the new season. After all it's just a game..

We don't need negativity but we do need reality
Glenn whelan is definitely not bayern and According to him our problem last season was a poor start left us playing up catch up
It doesn't really matter If those saying hughes needs to start the season in a more professional and productive manner have this username or another
The facts are... As the clubs own players are saying... We do

And the reality is we just finished a shite season and I doubt the upcoming one will be any better with Hughes in charge.

I like people feeling or being positive but were is the evidence that things can improve on the last 18 months. I have no trust or confidence in Hughes or his backroom staff he has had time & money but seems unable to turn things round. We also have a squad of players who seem as confused as the fans at some of his team selections. Both fullbacks need up grading we are short at centre back we need a defensive midfielder & we need a 15 goals a season striker which we already may have but needs the right service. I would like to feel good about the coming season but i think it may well be our last in the premier league unless there are big changes to the squad.

Who needs evidence in the post-rational age? Everything's gonna be great, everything's gonna be cool. Trust Mr. James. You too can be a believer.

The end of season angst has subsided.
Kick off the new season and I'll give MH, the management, the old players, the youth, and whatever new players every opportunity to impress and feed my own confidence.
Fixtures are a bit hard, so patience might be a virtue.
4-8 weeks in, I'll know if my patience was worth it.
If appropriate I'll vent. But it won't just be for sake of it. I'll keep my knickers dry til the very last minute. Rather a deluge than a trickle. We should really try to SUPPORT.

A couple of good signings and I'm pretty sure confidence will be restored. We're not far from being a very decent side.
Jack
New RB Ryan Indi (please) Eric
Allen or Daz New CM
Sobhi Shaq Arni
Bera (fit and firing)
Down to the board now. 3-4 decent signings before the season starts and we'd get the positivity back. No additions or cheap upgrades and the negativity will remain.

That is the only sensible thing to do. We are only 3 or 4 good signings from a really decent squad. We need better balance and more pace and mobility. I am sure Hughes knows that.

Stick with Hughes, managers improve teams over time. can't wait for the new season. After all it's just a game.. Agreed, I have been a supporter for nearly 50 years and some of the criticism of the team/manager is hardly constructive and these truly are some of the best times we have had in living memory: Regular cup runs, europe a cup final etc. That said, I am concerned and I think some of the comments and criticism come from genuine concern: We have been in decline for a while and we do have an unbalanced squad of players that needs addressing, we have the fewest number of defenders on our books than any other team in the prem(and by some margin) I make it 6 at the moment and Muni may be moved on and it does also look like he will be happy to start with Pieters and Johnson/Bardsley next year, we have 1 central defender on our books who has been linked with a number of other clubs - tis a bit worrying. We desperately needed an upgrade on Whelan and given our ageing and slow defence we preferably could have done with a bit of youth and vitality in that position. However, it looks like Whelan has now been replaced by somebody older and possibly even slower(and by the sound of it, he has been promised regular game time) Our leggy defence/midfield really was highlighted in our game with Arsenal at the end of last season, where we had players that were quite simply 2 or 3 yards off the pace. We do have to try and keep the faith though and hope Hughes can get the signings we need, and he has earned a bit of time and patience from us. He did say in his last press conference of the season, that he had neglected the defence in his time here, so I am clinging to the hope that we may be getting some youth and pace across the whole back four based on those comments. I am also hoping that we can keep hold of Arnie and that Berahino can realise his potential - we also have the best goalkeeper in the country too, so things are maybe not too bad.

I'm still baffled by both Johnson and Bards getting new contracts. My only hope is because they're looking on Edwards as the long term RB. I just hope he's as good as he appears. If he is use him.

Not a chance we're signing another right back after giving the 2 we already have an extension, maybe its in hope that what we have academy wise will step it up for next season but its a big gamble.

Keep the Faith! Its going to be a really hard for some of you to get up for it, but we are Stoke and I trust Hughes will build a killer side for us next season. I'm serious! I Don't get all this negativity, we will have a blast next season trust me! We have a great manager and an amazing owner, it will gel, I just know it. KTF! Cheer up Not a chance, too many things to sort out and I can't see Hughes wanting to admit he was wrong with so many things last season, Imbula is a big enough fail as it is.

Assuming we keep Shaq,Arnie and Butland , i actually think we are six players off a squad that could improve , 2 full backs , a centre back , a box to Box midfielder , a proven goal scorer and decent centre back cover assuming muniesa leaves , that's 20% of the squad and the thick end of £100m . I would hazard a guess, we are at least three from a potentially catastrophic struggle , the afore mentioned centre half , midfielder and goal scorer. My fear is that's an indication we are a lot nearer trouble than we are progress .

Someone has to bring the positive vibe, lets get behind OUR CLUB for once. This is THE transition year, the players need support more than ever this season, EXPECT CHANGE. It will be good. Change is Good We've been in transition ever since Hughes took over apparently, and we looked as bad last season as we ever looked under the previous manager that we had meant to have transitioned from. I've lost all faith in our manager and truly believe we will be in a relegation battle next season. I'm still trying to come to terms with our chairman's stance on everything that's going on at our club to be honest, it's just weird.
