If Woakes is definitely out I would go with Curran Yep he is definitely out, it has been hot and dry down here so is a chance two spinners are going to be picked again but please god not Dawson. We need the extra batsman ....I'd go for Samit Patel and his left arm spin is useful if not match winning

Obviously form has to be taken into consideration .....potential to be able to play at th highest level should be the most important thing for me though . To be fair Leach is one player I just haven't managed to see much of. Be good to see him in a test environment..... I dont t know much about him either , so it's unfair to comment really about him

3rd test about to get underway and we will bat
3 new caps in the line up replacing 2 bampot selections from the first two tests (Ballance and Dawson) and the disappointingly slow Wood.
So good luck to the new boys.
And let's hope we can post a decent number of runs before we lose our first three wickets. Over to you Ex- Captain Cook.
Kick off in 3 minutes!

Great day for it. If we can get through the first hour a decent score beckons. Big pressure on the new boys.....

Hmmmm....Jennings out for a duck. At least Cook is still there, and hopefully Westley can post a good score on debut.

Hmmmm....Jennings out for a duck. At least Cook is still there, and hopefully Westley can post a good score on debut. He is so stiff in his stance with hardly any foot movement, basically a dead man walking against the new ball. He can't continue in the team unless his technique improves dramatically......

We do seem to be really struggling in certain positions and aspects of the game at the moment. Despite doing quite well with our ODI team Bayliss seems to have had little or no effect on the Test set up.

It's worrying that he doesn't feel the need to go out and watch these players at County level, he's openly admitted to not seeing the likes of Stoneman and Westley play the long form of the game.....

171-4. Not a bad score considering that the ball was swinging quite a lot. At least the batsmen knuckled down and showed a bit of fight unlike the previous test. Cook really showed his class today. I think Jennings needs to be dropped for his own sake. It seems almost cruel to keep picking him at the moment

I agree about Jennings but who do England select to replace him when the alternatives are few and far between.

They keep introducing new batsmen and they all seem to have some early success before struggling. Hameed looked good during the winter but he has completely dropped off the radar now.

The SA bowling attack is pretty good. The wickets we lost yesterday were down to good bowling more than bad batting.
Got to feel a little sorry for Malan - that was a brute of a ball from Ramada. Sorry also for Jennings who looked all at sea. Philander knew what he had to do to get him out and was good enough to bowl the right ball. Jennings confidence is shot. A test match ain't the place for a rookie to regain form and confidence.
That said their top order batting looks as flakey as ours heavily dependent on the established players to score runs but with strength in the lower middle order.
Cook was Cook yesterday. Which was great to see. We need him to hang around today and hopefully the all rounders can do their stuff around him. I think a score of 300+ Would be competitive. Bowling conditions look to be favourable for the next couple of days.

One thing is for sure,we realy do need to find an opener to partner Cook and a No.3 before we take in the Aussies this winter.

Good counter attack by Bairstow and Stokes so far this morning, 350+ will be a good total with the weather and a bit in the pitch for the seamers......

Great ton from Stokes. Finished in style with three sixes on the trot. 350 should be a competitive total with the clouds moving in....

Roland-Jones is on fire! It might be helpful bowling conditions but you still have to put the ball in the right place and he is bowling beautifully.

Looks like being forced to use the spin bowlers for 4 or so overs has taken the steam out of us. Good effort today regardless 👍
