In the U.K. I love Bakewell. No supermarkets and access to wonderful countryside and not far from the Potteries. In Europe, I like Lisbon. A wonderful setting and friendly people. Compact, easy to get around and lively cultural scene. Globally, I thought Rio de Janeiro takes some beating. Stunning setting and beaches and very lively culture (but beware pickpockets etc.) Is it the tarts you like?

I remember sitting on a terrace in st Emilion looking down the dordogne river valley , with a glass of the local plonk thinking it was the most beautiful place I'd ever seen I remember sitting outside a restaurant in Sarlat having a similar experience before my three year old daughter kicked off on her biggest ever tantrum. The Dordogne valley is wonderful, I remember the turtles on the river. Did you have the obligatory photo taken next to the bronze geese?.

Walking from the top end of Bentilee, a 10-15 minute uphill stroll through beautiful open countryside leads you to possibly the best view in the entire city. 5 minutes walk further and you're in a very picturesque area and a site of Special Scientific Interest. Just in case you didn't know ;)

Bag heads bothering me while I ate trying sell me bags of coke or weed wasn't my kind of experience. Beautiful city and very clean though. I went a few years back whilst there was a music festival local so it could of been a wrong time. Ironically my favourite place in the world has to be amsterdam/holland. Beautiful and picturesque, easy to get around with an amazing transport system, friendly people who speak very good English (which isn't needed but a plus) and amazing food and ale.

It's not Bentilee but it's as near as damnit :)

The view from Topkapi Palace Istanbul is absolutely breathtaking and the city itself is spectacular. My favourite city apart from Stoke-on-Trent

She was and still is usually very chilled. She did it twice on that holiday the second time being in the square in Rouen on the way back.

you've just reminded me, South georgia, what a beautiful wild place, I was roaming around when one of these buggers arched up from the long grass and bellowed out with a breath that smelt like the waste bins from grimsby docks. Is there anywhere you haven't been? bet you've not been around marladys tuppence is that the one that smells like the waste bins from Grimsby docks ?

Noord-Holland, the region north of Amsterdam. Good for a couple of day's cycling to get away from it all.
Sauerland in Germany, an hour or so north of Frankfurt.
The Limousin in France.
Majorca out of season.

Lake district-pretty much anywhere up there. Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay.
Enjoyed Italy a lot too-Lake Garda and Venice.
In terms of cities then Paris takes some beating.

I've thought about this and struggled to pick one specific city, been to about half a dozen countries in the far east lately and loved them all so I'll just say the far east :)
Special mention to a place called Los Roques archipelago where we spent a week or so of our honeymoon tho', I'd love to go back there.

I love Bruges. Moules et frite washed down with a few beers in the market square. I second Bruges. Rabbit Stew and Croquettes is also good but the beer is amazing. I'd also recommend with Koh Phangan for outside of Europe.
