Having only caught the odd episode here and there I watched the first four of the first series yesterday. The cat burglar episode was brilliantly funny and the episode with Migg the tramp was so darkly brilliant!
The Sheridan Smith episode in series 2 is the best I've seen so far, really well written and really thought provoking.

Many thanks for posting all the clips Watched the Sardines one. Excellent. Want to watch them all but am restraining myself (with great difficulty) and waiting for the DVDs to arrive. Gawd knows how RS and SP think them all up, especially as they're both SUCH hugely talented actors. Roll on next week's ep! Speaks volumes for MY willpower - five minutes after posting this last night I thought 'oh, well, just ONE more, then.....' Ended up watching two more.

Yep, these were the two I watched last night. I was going to post exactly the same comments about them. Just had an e-mail from Amazon this morning telling me my DVD sets of Series 1 & 2 will be delivered today and am now stationed behind the front door like a tiger waiting to pounce. Good way to spend a Saturday afternoon when there's no footie.

On the basis of heavy recommends on this thread I watched last nights' episode, the one with the shoe. Was it representative of the series?

On the basis of heavy recommends on this thread I watched last nights' episode, the one with the shoe. Was it representative of the series? Watch The Bill then The Sphinx one. They're more layered than The Shoe. I find myself watching the characters when they're not talking. The intricate dialogue becomes a soundtrack not a script.

I'm working my way through them, and they vary considerably. I found The Bill and the one about the cat burglars to be brilliant, the Sheridan Smith episode (without giving the game away) was very emotional. As for The Riddle Of The Sphinx, I thought it was clever but ultimately left me cold.

They are supposed to be ironical.
Some are 'funnier' than others but it's not just about humour.
Diddle, diddle dumpling is very similar in part to that film Anthony Hopkins made years ago about that dummy that started to control his life.
The same way that the shoe does.
It's about making people think.

There's a scene in it where he is asked not to talk like the manikin Corky for 2 minutes, but he can't do it. Diddle diddle dumpling does this where the bloke is asked not to mention the shoe for 2 minutes but can't. In effect, the shoe starts to control him. An insidious form of obsessive compulsive behaviour driven by extreme anxiety & nuerosis. Inside no 9 isn't supposed to be always funny.

Just got stuck in a 1980's music grooove.. might hoist some Wedding Present next unless you've got some better stuff. I'm a big fan of the Gatiss/Pemberton things, except for Benidorm... I think the Karoake episode was too Benidorm. I'm a comedy snob so havn't gone out of me way for 'shoes'.

Seen some good ones but turned the shoe off after 10 mins. You missed the punchline on 29 minutes then. Absolutely. The shoes episode was the most watchable of the 3rd series so far, which to me hasn't quite matched the first 2 series. It was quite an insight into the frailties and anxieties of the human condition. I've done stuff like that myself - deliberately place an object somewhere to remind me of someone or something, whether happy or sad. I bet most of us have.

(The shoe one did nothing for me.......... ) The cat burglars one was the best. Absolutely brilliant.

'Inside Number 9' - BBC 4 tonight, at 10.45 & 11.15. Just popping in for a mo to say that I've just noticed there are 2 eps on tonight.
Really looking fwd to seeing the first one (which usually means it will turn out to be rubbish.....) as the write-up says: 'An understudy in Macbeth dreams of taking over.'

I'm completely down with the idea of Digital Days Off and Detox. It's been a fairly analogue weekend.

Yes, got a small gang in tow. Think 'My Favourite Dress' by the braziers will be mint. Always found the bar at the Gladstone a bit of a faff. I'll be better prepared and pre-oiled for this one. Looking forward to it. Hugh Cornwell and a few other bits and bobs before that. Contemplating Low at Manc Cathedral tomorrow night. Dunno.
