38% turnout..we have an MP elected on 14% of the vote..apathy abounds . Labour in again despite doing fuck all for this city in the last 66years and a snake of a bloke in Gareth Snell...we should be very proud. In fairness the electorate weren't really offered much choice, Lib Dems pointless, UKIP had a charlatan chancer and an outright liar as a candidate and the Tories will never ever win in Stoke. Yes Snell is a pretty odious man but perhaps that's why no fecker could be bothered to vote. I live a long long way from Stoke Central but those folks deserve better. This, I was really surprised it was that low, especially with the media coverage. Storm Doris would not have helped. There is an awful lot of apathy around Stoke on Trent politics at the moment and the standard of candidates perhaps signifies this? None of the candidates were 'inspiring'. And yes, we do deserve better.

I drove past BNFL in Warrington the other day, they had a massive banner up showing 'engineering degree apprenticeships' the country has a big shortage of engineers, maybe they should be pushing engineering a lot There's a big problem with training in this country full stop. Engineers, Scientists,Doctors. It takes years to train somebody and costs a fortune, then they are free to move abroad and offer their services elsewhere. I've always thought that a sort of National Service combined with basic training in engineering/mechanics/manufacturing was one option to turn us into a country that can start making things again (and fixing them) but that's probably never going to happen. the thing about the bnfl advert that caught my eye was 'apprenticeships' they are normally free. the nhs they should have to do a minimum number of years before being allowed to move

More Isabel Oakshott on Sunday politics for those with an interest ;-) From reading twitter it appears Shami has had a blinder today, apparently Storm Doris affected Labour voters turning out because they're obviously don't have cars or anything. If a Tory had said that.,...

If a Tory had said that.,... She's a car crash. Brexit was the problem in Copeland. The huge swing was a vote against the establishment apparently. She reckons Snell connected on a local level in Stoke but ignored the complete voter apathy and Snell's twitter history. Had a pop at Marr for not having a balance of guests. Completely dodged a question on Shiner and Jeremy's her man. Same old, same old.

Isn't voting apathy in Stoke on Trent due to The population being about 97% Eastern Europeans nowadays and not oatcake and wrights pie eating, dusty faced potters?

Re the pottery industry, it's currently doing very well. Not as big as in the past but those days have gone (and it worries me that people who voted for Brexit think those days can come back to the UK, they can't). At the minute the pottery industry is a massively positive thing and he did the right thing to focus on that positive. What good is it to harp on about industries that are pretty much dead in this city? Pottery isn't. There's still plenty of companies making it, there's a massive interest in it and the tourism it creates is big. Very true and I don't know if the city has improved it's hotels recently, something that would put people off f they cannot get a good hotel. Something that would definitely need improving if they are serious about the city of culture bid. Awesome news!

They are more like a Holiday Inn Express than a Holiday Inn, but it's a good sign that the city may be getting more tourists and business travellers
