Oh, yes - FABULOUS. They're on the bookshelves on the landing, next to War and Peace and Candide. Time for a re-visit, I think. Thanks for the reminder! Also on there is 'The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire'. Had it so long the Empire had only just fallen when I bought it. Haven't even opened it yet and probably never will….. Yes murph I have those weighty tomes on my list of books to read before I die , mean while I'm just 3/4 of the way through a john Grisham Are you a fast reader Harry?

The 80's adaptation of John Jakes "North and South" trilogy, concerning the American Civil War, was on TV just recently and I quite enjoyed it. Melodramatic and history lite for the genpop but ok.
Anyway, I ordered the books cheapo off Ebay and I'm about to dig in. I'm sure I read them at the time and they've stuck in my mind which means they were either very good or terrible. We'll see.

If you enjoy N&S try,if you have not already done so, Gone with the wind. I never really fancied it having seen the film a few times. A brilliant book well worth reading.
