He came very close to winning the title with Villa in 89/90 IIRC.

May not have been the best England manager but the abuse he received off the press was disgraceful, those that knew him say he was a gentleman. RIP.

Sad news. Thorougly decent bloke, and latterly a shrewd commentator. Memorably called out Alan Green live on air - "you don't half talk some rubbish Alan" - apparetly the poor man's Eamonn Holmes was furious, and refused to work with him for a while.
Hard done to with injuries too - derided for picking Carlton Palmer, but I seem to remember every other midfield player being injured. I read an interview a while ago in which he clearly still felt the pain of our failure to qualify for the 94 world cup 20 years later. I think he said he'd never once been able to get Shearer, Pearce, Gascoigne and Barnes on the pitch together due to injuries.
He was right about that ref costing him his job too. How is this not a red?

How is this not a red? That decision is the closest I've seen my old man destroy the living room at home when I was a boy. Euro 92 was awful but after that he had some terrible luck with players, decisions, results, refs and the press. Unfortunately all part and parcel of the game especially the England job.

Very sad news, he was a fine manager, what he did at Lincoln and Watford was fantastic and also at the Villa.
He also came across as a genuine and fun human being, i still have the recording of his debut on Radio 5 Live 'Fighting Talk' back from 2004 and he was absolutely hilarious.

Graham Taylor still owes me 20p.
Shortly after he left Villa to become Manager of England, I was staying a a hotel in Birmingham & I was using the gym facilities. Graham walked into the changing room, but he hadn't got any change for the locker, so I duly brassed him up.
He seemed like a decent chap, & he was quite talkative. RIP.
