Just stopped for drinks in Gloucester service Stn on way back from New Years Party. £16.95 for 2 coffee, 2 orange, a hot choc & 1 biscuit. I $#!t you not, there was 2 armed coppers in there & neither of them did a thing, even though I was being robbed!!!

Disgusting ! As you say it's daylight robbery. I don't know how they can blatantly rip people off like this, although you are stuck if you want something to drink and then continue on the motorway. All service areas are rip-offs, and their fuel prices are scandalous.

Re the fuel. What part of the delivery process is so different for it to warrant such a high price. It's no different to any other forecourt up and down the land?.

What's the one on the M6 up in the Lake District, well known for high street prices both on the forecourt and in the shops and restaurants, bloody good food as well, though I am going back maybe 10 years or so...

We go to Dorset quite regularly and the wife decided she wanted to take a look in the Gloucester Services farm shop. She is almost immune to high prices in shops (although I remind her constantly that we/I will not pay to be ripped-off) but even she refused to pay the prices for their stuff. Some of the things were almost double the price for the same item you could buy in a non-motorway shop.

It's such a stupid policy to have, lets say a high street shop makes 50% profit, and these buggers make 80% profit, but they are deterring shoppers with their crazy prices, simple maths 50% of a high turnover is more than 80% of a ridiculously low turnover..

I totally agree with you. However there were plenty of people queuing up to buy stuff - must have more money than sense ! We've called in there during June and July and the shop assistants couldn't fill the shelves quickly enough as people were buying the stuff so fast. For some reason the shop on the southbound side always seems busier than on the northbound side.

Gloucester services is the same people as Tebay as mentioned above. I think they're both privately owned though. Top tip - if you've got kiddies in tow then you get a kid's meal for £1 with every adult meal. We stop there and feed four of us for about £18, and the food is good and kids portions are massive. Get the kids sausage and chips.

If you need fuel, you need fuel, they can charge what they want for it, people will have to pay it, it shocking but they get away with it. The worst from experience is the one at Exeter services off the M5, it's at least 20 / 25p per litre more expensive than normal stations and its that far away from the motorway, you use half a tank getting back on it!

You also have to learn where the supermarkets are that aren't far off the motorway. If I'm on the M5 I use Morrisons at Tewkesbury or Sainsburys at Weston-S-M.

£2.30 for a bottle of water from the vending machine at the vue cinema next to bolton's ground, fuck that I'll dehydrate ty v much
When you take into consideration all the costs that went into that bottle, I still can't imagine the markup is anything less than 1000%.......
