to be fair, he's been our most consistent performer this season really and lots of the media have mentioned how well he's been playing. nothing wrong with coming out so early and basically saying to all the clubs right from the start "Don't even bother lads, he's staying put"
"We are coming to the end of November and it won't be too long until every press conference will be about who is coming and who is going. It is a sign of things to come and we have to accept that.
"We have to abide by rules where we can purchase players in only two short windows, so when one of those comes around it gets highlighted almost on a daily basis."

I actually just had a quick google to see if any news came up in case a bigger club were to come sniffing. And it does look like it's purely Hughes saying we aren't selling him. I did only read one article though. Hopefully he'I'll have 10 more press conferences between now and the 1st of Jan to confirm the rest of the first teams staying put.

I agree its a very odd comment to make 5 months into a 5 year contract. What was the context?

I just saw the strap line on SSN and assumed there was some speculation around him.
He's going nowhere, the beautiful human being that he is.

I don't think he would get a long run of games at a bigger club. They will always want the big money foreigners
He is Definately one that thrives being the star player in a smaller team. I hope he accepts that. And it's a bloody good level to be at

Should have said £50M and he's yours. That would offset a huge loss on Imbula and buy 2 very good replacements.

We've probably had enquiries behind the scenes, and it's an open message to whoever it is that he isn't going. I dare say clubs have loads of enquiries for loads of different players every season. I think if us supporters knew about what goes on with the likes of offers and interest and enquiries we'd never sleep.
Move on.

And it's a bloody good level to be at So... 1 "Big" clubs only play foreigners as a matter of principle. 2 Stoke are a "small" club 3 Joe Allen isn't good enough to play regularly for a "big" club and should be happy playing for a "small" club like Stoke. Presumably because we are average and can accommodate average players. Joe Allen is an excellent player who could be playing regularly in any team in the Premier League. Stoke are an established Premier league team who are attracting top quality players - and fortunately (like any club wanting to do well in the worlds most competitive league) that means not worrying about their nationality. Which is just as well given the rumours about Joe Allen might be Welsh.

It would go a long way toward sorting out our midfield which is totally out of balance. He's good but he's not that good.

For me it would take more than that to sell, we dont need the money and he could be premiership player of the season if his good form continues. I think stoke would sell for 50 though

And after that only Spurs are left and their midfield is packed. He is probably at the biggest club in the premiership who can offer him regular football and virtually the first name on the team sheet. And yes I believe that some clubs prefer an over priced player with a foreign name than someone just as good British. We are a small club compared to Spurs, the shit, citeh, Chelsea, arsenal and Spurs. The only sort of clubs who would come calling. He is not making a sideways move to Southampton or Everton

Unless a huge club come in for him and a huge price for him, this early into his contract, it ain't going to happen. Strange thing to say though from Hughes. There must be some interest.
