There's been a change at the top of the savoury snack chart with a surprize new entry at number one.
1. Aldi's own Benefit low fat ready salted crisps - Not the usual insipid 'healthy' crisp, a real depth of flavour. Can't beat a classic plain crisp. 2. Snyder's Jalapeno pretzel pieces - knocked off the top spot after a surprizing breath taking kick off of one of those pesky pretzel pieces. Approach with caution, have a pint to hand. 3. Golden Wonder Cheesy Footballs. GW doing an impressive range of £1 share bags. The part wotsit powdery cheese balls are the pick of the crop. 4. Clancy's Salt & Vinegar peanut and cashew mix. Thanks again Aldi. 5. Bacon Fries, bags aren't big enough.
Bubbling under.. the humble pickled egg.

1,2 and 5 have merits, as for the other two, just no. The work of the devil incarnate. I'll stick with Walkers marmite jobs. 👌

Oh yes, it's the vfm factor that prevents them from challenging at the moment. Quite fond of them Cheese Moments too, though I know they can be divisive and similarly suffer in pack size imo. Never been fond of pretzels but those Snyder pieces are a revelation, like dentist friendly pork scratchings, a bit like those mini garlic breads {which I havn't seen in ages.} Hot as heck too.

OK then....scratchings in a clear bag sold in pubs with no brand name on them, the ones with hairs on the gristle.

A favourite of mine in my Sea Lion days was a bag of plain crisps with a picked egg dropped in.
On a Saturday morning in there at about 11:30 the local butcher would bring in a huge tray of cooked hocks, they were superb.

Good skills with the pickled egg trick, I crush the crisps to make a kind of scotch egg effect. Works well with salt ans vinegar crisps. Drank in a boozer in Newton Abbott that had a continuous supply of bowls of hard boiled eggs. Shell yersen. Brill.

Where does the pork pie place on this chart? Or does it have its own league with sausage rolls?

I like pistacchios I do, apart from the odd completely sealed one that is like trying to penetrate through the hull of a Trafalgar class submarine

Public service announcement.
Don't bother with pulled pork and honey flavour crisps from Aldi. Sounds like a good idea but abysmal failure. You have been warned!!.

Where does the pork pie place on this chart? Or does it have its own league with sausage rolls? I reckon they're in. And Maninasuitcase has brought crackers to the table too. I didn't really set me parameters out very well. The original concept I think was pub crisp type snacks, but immediately muddied the waters by including Aldi snacks and pickled eggs. I'm very enthusiastic about the more pastry end of the menu. Cheese straws are mint.

OK then....scratchings in a clear bag sold in pubs with no brand name on them, the ones with hairs on the gristle. Gone off pig snacks tbh. Don't mind them pork crunch thins though, the one's that have never seen a pig. I spent me twenties living in Devon and Dorset. Worked in Newton Abbot for several years, lovely place at the time. Sleepy town on the edge of the moors, with the quaint Lemon meandering through, Dippers an' all. A little like Leek lite with the melting pot of the Riviera just through the valley. Funky racecourse on the Teign too. Havn't been for ten plus years.

They appeal to my inner parrot, they are addictive. I chuck the closed fuckers on the fire. With a huge sense of defeat and disappointment.

Find the idea of the sudden popularity of pulled pork quite amusing. Good on a bap, on an oatcake or in a pitta mind. My family have had the long tradition of the near cremation of meats. We were eating last minute rescued pulled pork, pulled beef, chicken years ago. Shame about yer meal. The Aldi lamb shanks are good imo.

Good times in Devon. Indeed. Fortunate enough to have the use of a rather swish pad in Dartmouth. High up above the harbour with a balcony. Above the line of flight of the Arrows at the regatta. Top spot. Carey Arms, Babbacombe, TQ is amongst me favourite boozers. Havn't been there for ages either, last time it was closed with talk of DeSavary doing a Lands End on it. Salcombe was some place, playground for the less crusty trustees.

The Dartmouth Christmas train was fun. Salcombe. Kingsbridge. Many small villages perched on the edge of the damp moors. Fish and chips on Plymouth Hoe, pubs and a good curry. Went on an all day session in Ivybridge. Left cap and sunglasses in a pub. Someone handed them in at the bar. Nice, decent, country folk.

On the topic of pub snacks there was a cracking old boozer near the Cathedral in Truro. Up to yer knees in empty monkey nut shells by the end of the night. mmm name eludes me.

Where does the pork pie place on this chart? Or does it have its own league with sausage rolls? Pork Pies must be high up on the snacks chart, JJ. Preferably with plenty of jelly in them - yum! Glad we can include sausage rolls - try these - they're not huge, but they're scrummy and have a sort-of very slight 'sweet' taste. Just looked at their contents on Tesco's www, and they include pulled pork and apple sauce, so that must be what it is: Tesco Finest 4 'Hog Roast' Sausages Rolls 188G £2.50www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=291045565

Anyone for Twiglets? I think they're very more-ish, but probably anyone who hates Marmite won't like them.
Several years ago there was a Twiglets Sweet & Sour version, but I can't find any reference to this now so they must have discontinued them - a huge pity, as they were absolutely deeeee-lish.
