Absolutely incredible.
Was there some unbelievable offer at the turnstiles (it was free? ) or something?

I wondered/assumed the same, but to be honest I would still be impressed even if it was a fiver a ticket or two for one or something (which I doubt it was). Amazing.

The Geordie fundamentalist Messiah revival is now fully underway. They love a Messiah up there.

Not quite as impressive 22,222 ( though that's cool in itself) at Elland Road Last night

I certainly prefer that club to the Mackems, who whilst are very well supported themselves, seem to be in a different league.

that is immense for a eft game on a cold Tuesday night in october. the Geordie fans I have met all seem to be sound lads and allways back their club in numbers . they deserve better from their owner

I certainly prefer that club to the Mackems, who whilst are very well supported themselves, seem to be in a different league. I've spent quite a bit of time up there, even done some training (dog not football) at St James' park. So many people seem obsessed up there its almost sectarian, its how they identify themselves. Theres a rivalry but good banter too. I know they get a bit carried away with themselves and are referred to as deluded but really they're great folks with huge passion for football.

Newcastle is an interesting City too. Lots of fine buildings. Some great countryside & coast nearby. Bit like Stoke

Newcastle is an interesting City too. Lots of fine buildings. Some great countryside & coast nearby. Bit like Stoke Went last season and made a week end of it. Great city and well worth a visit. Ground in city centre, loads of packed out pubs nearby, and the locals very friendly, or should I say canny?

It seems that TalkSport think they're going to walk the Premier League next year, signing Sturridge and Oxlade-Chamberlain in the process.
A few good results in an inferior league eh...??

Fantastic attendances this season considering their humiliation last. If they got in champions league season after season and even won the premier i could see them expanding to 70,000

Mr's family is from the north east, and went the game on Saturday with father-in-law. (Glued to my phone I might add!!) Been a few times now, and love it up there, the people are friendly, the city is full of good places to eat and drink. Went in the Strawberry before we played there last year, and no hint of any mither, all good banter, and its great to have a ground in the middle of town! Football aside, its a great place to go for a weekend too! I am (Have to be) a bit biased though

They're playing well and fully behind the manager - optimism is rife in the toon at the moment, they fully expect to be back in the Prem and also being competitive next year...

One minute they hate Ashley. They refuse to go to games
Then the next they get relegated and persuade the fat Spanish waiter (probably in cash!) To carry on and boom. They get 50k on a week night
Weird bunch

Where were these fans in the early 90s when the attendance averaged in the low 20k What's that got to do with it, really? You could ask that about virtually any club in the country. ManU averaged about 40k in the early 90s (now 75k). Man City 25k (now 50). Arsenal 30 (now 60), Everton low 20s, West Ham low 20s. Southampton 15k. Brum, Derby, Wolves, Leicester and Stoke all averaged about 12 - 15k. How many do you think we would get through the gates for a midweek League Cup game against Preston? How about if we were in the second division at the time? Is Newcastle's FIFTY THOUSAND suddenly not impressive because they have had, at one point in the past, a period of lower attendances? It is okay to occasionally give credit and due respect to other clubs you know.

Look at european football statistcs ( i know you will think " colin, you anorak" ( it wont bother me , ive had it all my life) ).

It is impressive, but they are helped out massively by having a large captive audience on Tyneside and further up into Northumberland, plus they're on a very good run at the moment with a quality manager. Always been more impressed with Sunderland's attendances really.
