All I remember of that game, if it was that game, was laughinging so hard and trying to join in the singing of 'Shit on the Vale!' Didn't this result fuck up their season? They had a chance of making the play offs to get to the Prem and we put a stop to it with this win. Although a few days before I was talking to a Vale fan who assured me they didn't want to get promoted because they wouldn't be able to play Stoke. Ambition much?

I remember a few Stokies heading up to Burslem after the game and it kicking off up Waterloo Road. Must've been entirely Burslem coppers and CID because they had a lot more about them than Vale that night.

How loud were we at the Vic?! I know it was a local derby but you don't hear that noise at football anywhere now.
I'm so glad I'm old enough to have had a few years there. I went the odd game from the late eighties on but was very young. My first full proper season was 91-92. That was the year I gained a burden for life.
I knew next to nothing of our history and bugger all about nogger, but I lived and breathed stoke from then on. Even the most seasoned supporters couldn't have cared more about stoke than me that year!
I was very lucky to start following stoke when I did.
Not gonna lie, all I wanted back then was for us to get to the premier league. Yet now we're established in the top flight I'd do anything to relive the macari years! Rose tinted glasses maybe?

Oh how I wish we had another "Mike Sherron" right now.....we just appreciated him for scoring, but he had good ability too!!! And that "Delilah" was amazing....that's how it should be done....we seem to rush through it now!!!

I thought Macari junior was a very good player when given his chance his dad didn't like picking him though and I remember a game against Oxford and Macari got 2 goals if my memory serves me right and ran them ragged

We had several young players coming through at the time who were thrown into the deep end (Macari, MacKenzie, Griffin, Whittle etc). I don't think it helped that we lost so many experienced players over the same period who would have helped them settle in. Gleghorn, Sandford and Overson all left the summer before while Cranson and Sturridge's careers were as good as over following injury.
