Trump has never had the backing of the GOP establishment, many of whom are up to the same shenanigans as Hillary. Some of the themes trotted out in the mainstream media to discredit Trump are pitiful. Comparisons with fascist dictators of the 20th century are not only misleading but patronise the public's intelligence and do a disservice to those who suffered or died. The comparison is entirely appropriate and has been drawn by many commentators in America and abroad. Nobody is attempting to patronise anyone's intelligence. May I remind you that Mussolini was seen as the saviour of Italy for many years until it became fully apparent what fascism entailed! So, nobody should be under any illusion what support for the populist right wing means! Who are these "commentators" to whom you've been paying attention? Ones that don't patronise the public's intelligence in the mainstream media in a US presidential campaign...? You'd be better informed reading this "commentator": "It is in internal politics that this word ("Fascist") has lost the last vestige of meaning. For if you examine the press you will find that there is almost no set of people — certainly no political party or organized body of any kind — which has not been denounced as Fascist during the past ten years... the people who recklessly fling the word ‘Fascist’ in every direction attach at any rate an emotional significance to it. By ‘Fascism’ they mean, roughly speaking, something cruel, unscrupulous, arrogant, obscurantist, anti-liberal and anti-working-class. Except for the relatively small number of Fascist sympathizers, almost any English person would accept ‘bully’ as a synonym for ‘Fascist’. That is about as near to a definition as this much-abused word has come." George Orwell, What is Fascism? 1944.

The last 25 years have not been good for western politics imo. We had a boom not just money but tech advances etc before the crash of 2008 and have spent the next few years recovering or treading water if you will.
Maybe it's the Internet where more info is available but the politicians of this era seem to be more self serving and in it for themselves and their cronies. Maybe it's always been that way.
Trump is by no means a great politician. He's the anti-candidate and sometimes because of what's gone on the anti candidate becomes The lesser of two evils.
If trump gets in it is only because of the distrust, scandal, war mongering and self serving in the USA by successive administrations since Regan

Interesting times.

Trump’s an off-the-charts liar, it's pretty hard to guess what he'd actually do. Would he really end democracy and destroy the free press if it doesn't do what he wants? Hard to tell.
I believe he'll try his massive tax cuts for the rich and his promise to try and destroy climate policy, which is basically stealing the future from today's kids and their children. If you want the rich to better off, higher debt and are happy to risk catastrophe for the future the he's an ideal guy.
And I have no idea why anyone thinks he's competent or trustworthy.

I've been fascinated by the race so far and I don't know why...... because I haven't heard one - not ONE single well constructed, convincing game changing policy from EITHER camp. A pair of kids in a playground springs to mind. And these thick Americans lap it up !!!!!! Fuckin hilarious stuff !!!!!! Sounds like you're lapping it up too As a Brit living in the US (7 1/2 years - Don't have ability to vote yet) I despair that out of the 300+ million people here Donald and Hillary are the best available.. Living in the key battleground state of Ohio things are warming up nicely. Donald has been here a couple of times in the last month and I believe Hillary is visiting today. I watched a couple of the 'debates' as they were car crash TV. See far more 'Trump' supporting signs in peoples gardens around here then Clinton. Worrying times!

This is getting ridiculously similar to the referendum. Hilary is using the hate card now and with the sad news that 2 officers have been shot in iowa, which is apparently one of trumps strongest states, will she use this in her bid to try a gain more votes.

My prediction: legal issues for Hillary get much worse before election day and the FBI get accused of an attempted coup.

Trump is basically out of his depth. So he'll win. Really for a country of that size there should be 3 or 4 parties with candidates till the vote. If there was a vote of no confidence on the slip, it will probably get the most votes.

The latest "prediction" that I've just seen of the electoral college votes from some US news channel gives Crooked Hillary 274 compared to 264 for The Donald with 270 being the winning line. So unless there are any more scandals to be unveiled it currently looks like she will just scrape over the line.

They are poorly funded and so far behind in the polls, that they do not matter. US politics is hugely polarised and its hard to see how things are going to change.

My prediction: legal issues for Hillary get much worse before election day and the FBI get accused of an attempted coup. As ever, you prediction is totally wrong! 'Mystic Meg' has got a better track record than you! How can "legal issues" be an issue when none of the investigations are close to being complete? Nobody has accused the F.B.I. of an attempted coup but they have accused it of breaking their rules and precedent by sending a letter re:e-mails to Republicans in Congress within 60 days of an election!

For the record, the man arrested in Iowa had a massive Trump-Pence sign outside his home! No need to use anything for votes as this speaks volumes!

One woman's view: Take a look at @logicalcampaign's Tweet: I was quite surprised she was allowed to get in so many punches without interruption They weren't punches but lies, disinformation and hypocrisy! I'll give you just one:the lady complains about deaths from gun violence in Chicago. True! But the gun lobby is pouring millions of dollars into the campaign to help elect Republicans who oppose gun control!

The BBC are a fucking disgrace. Very biased against Trump. In what way are they biased? The B.B.C. are clearly biased! They fail to mention all the wonderful things about 'The Donald' i.e. all the years he didn't pay federal taxes, the several times he's gone bankrupt, the very large numbers of women claiming assault, his insults regarding women, minorities, the disabled et al. You would think 'Auntie' would reprise all these marvellous things about "I'm the only man who can save America!".

The BBC are a fucking disgrace. Very biased against Trump. In what way are they biased? In quite a subtle and nuanced way. The devil is in the detail. It's not overt propaganda but over time it's noticeable. Living outside the UK I'm basing this on their news website. For example last Sunday: a huge story about the Clinton emails. They gave it some coverage but quite understated. Several women's issue stories suddenly appeared on Sunday evening depicting women as victims, that's a Hillary theme of course. Sandwiched between links to 2 "women suffering abuse in wherever" stories (with women crying in the thumbnail pics) is a link to a Trump story with him smirking like complete a twat in the picture. The next day the only headline about the emails was criticism of the FBI. The BBC sell a lot of content to NPR in the US. I think they're towing the American MSM line which is pro-Clinton.
