Like the way he gets his bulky body in between the player and the ball :-) a bit like duberry and our lord :-) looks good !

Buying him is one thing, but the quoted £12M seems an awful lot for a gamble! They paid just £5M themselveves, according to some papers, so maybe a bid around £6M with add ons related to games played for us would be wise? The devaluation of the £ is a factor

That's why I added £1M.

Looks like the kind of quality partner Ryan needs - and hopefully both could stay fit and form a good partnership.

I've seen a couple of posters mention that Denis Smith was injury prone, presumably to justify signing another injury-prone player. But didn't one of Denis' injuries (along with other player injuries that season) put paid to our chances of winning the league? Having injury-prone players can come at a cost. Friend, Denis's injury was a broken leg (along with Pejic, Ritchie and Robertson). Four in one season - god knows how our friends from the Emirates would cope with that!. Yeah I know that mate. I was just making a follow on comment to a number of posters who'd inferred that signing an injury prone centre-half was OK because Denis was injury-prone and he did alright for us. Most of Denis' injuries were breaks of one sort or another, but he had loads of them, hence the comment made by others that he was injury prone. I was just making the point that those injuries cost us dearly, so signing an injury prone player isn't really a great idea. Didn't Hudson also break his leg that season?

Did you copy the name or just straight up go for typing it first time? I've had three Gin and Tonics and two whisky's. Take a wild guess. his name is paul

Friend, Hudson was at Derby the following year, courtesy of a certain Bruce Rioch, who of course went on to manage our friends down south. You are totally right about smithy- anything short of a break didn't count as an injury!

Wasn't he the next big thing a year or so back? Would love him to come, he is exactly what we need - another enforcer at the back.

I suspect we'd bid that or do something similar as the wolschied deal loan with view to perm? I'd take that.

Wolly is reading the game very well and he is also good with the ball at his feet, but he is slow (at least when he needs to turn around) and tend to lose his man on set pieces too often for my liking. He is all in all not a bad defender, but I don't think him and Ryan work very well together either. I certainly know who of the two I prefer, and Ryan needs a new patner. This new player needs to be quite pacey and good at marking too! This is my opinion of course, but I think I've seen 99% of all the games Wolly has played since arriving at Stoke.

In all seriousness I agree 100% with that both of them need someone a bit faster alongside them generally as neither are fast. As I've said before I'd like Lewis Dunk or the lad from Wolves if we're going home grown.

Of course he is just needs time to settle he's defiantly quality just depends on what you consider quality represents for the best part of £3m it's all about standards for me.

I said after the heavy spurs defeat that Wolly wouldn't and shouldn't ever play for stoke again. I liked him at the start, but as the season went on he scared me death.

There's no place for talking sense here Dave.... Afellay, Muni, Bardsley etc came through a medical and will continue to be injury prone until they retire. Our injuries aren't a coincidence and signing players prone to injury has been a part of that. This lad as I've previously mentioned is bloody excellent but I think injuries with our record and the players we already have do have to be factored in. And as someone else said centre back is where you want a partnership and players who can play 36/37 league games playing. It's a gamble with his injuries, that's obvious. Affellay hasn't been injured with us has he? Apart from his cruciate

I've just seen Dunk play a couple of games on TV (play off games) where he looked very decent, but must admit I haven't seen enough of him to make up my mind. The same could be said about the Wolves defender (Bath?), who I also have watched just a couple of times on TV. Of the two Dunk has looked the better player, but just a couple of games aren't enough to be too certain about this.

Anyway I think it's the right way to go to pick up young promising players intead of paying mega-bucks for well known players.
